Job summary

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic individual to support the diabetes podiatrists in delivering podiatric treatments to patients across the integrated diabetic foot care pathway. You will be part of a supportive multi-disciplinary team and will receive regular supervision.

Podiatrists are registered healthcare professionals specialising in the lower limb (feet, ankles, legs), providing high quality clinical care to people of all ages. A Podiatrist's job is to work to protect people's feet, providing preventative advice, care, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a range of problems affecting the lower limb.

You will ideally have previous experience working with the elderly or at risk groups in a health or social care setting. The post holders will need to have the ability to work flexibly within this very busy team under direct supervision of the podiatrist. The role will offer treatment and advice to patients, carers and colleagues, as well an educational service, offering safe foot care advice under the supervision of a qualified podiatrist.

If you do not have evidenced current valid training or competencies a full training programme may be provided. This will be within both the community and acute setting by the podiatry service leading to appropriate competency for the role.

Main duties of the job

This post is based at our acute sites, Gloucestershire Royal & Cheltenham General Hospitals but may involve working with our community team as the need arises.

As a Podiatry healthcare assistant working within the Integrated Diabetes team, you will be expected to work with the Advanced Diabetes Podiatrists in delivering podiatric treatments to patients across the integrated diabetic foot care pathway.

You will be supporting the multi-disciplinary team (MDFT) working with vascular, orthopaedic and diabetes consultants as well as supporting the integrated team working on inpatient wards at GRH/CGH.

You will be part of a supportive multi-disciplinary team and will receive regular supervision.

You will also work with colleagues in the core community team and with foot protection lead.

This post requires the post holder to be able to undertake all statutory and mandatory training and post holders must be able to undertake physical interventions. Fitness for physical intervention will be assessed by Occupational Health.

You will receive direct supervision and partake in reflective practice / training on a regular basis and be required to meet the Care Certificate standards. All successful applicants will also have the opportunity to discuss the prospect of undertaking a Level 3 Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship alongside their substantive post. This apprenticeship would include the Level 3 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare.
