Job summary

We have a really interesting opportunity to come and work in a friendly and well supported team as a Clinical Safety Officer (CSO). This is a new role that we have developed to support the ongoing need within our Trust and will work collaboratively with governance teams within services to ensure streamlined processes are in place for the management of risk and investigation of incidents where these relate to or involve digital solutions.

The CSO will work as part of a dynamic team which includes the Clinical Information Officer, Information Technology and Clinical System Team, Patient Safety and Quality Team. The post holder will have an extensive understanding of clinical safety and will be responsible for efficient and effective management of the Digital Clinical Safety on behalf of the Trust. The role is responsible for providing leadership, guidance, support, specialist knowledge and clinical safety review and approval for the implementation of new digital solutions and upgrades existing digital solutions across the Trust. This includes the assessment of clinical safety issues at all points in the procurement and implementation of IT software and hardware, including on-going management once transferred to live service and ensuring all digital solutions conform to relevant national standards for clinical safety.

Main duties of the job

  • Act as Clinical Safety Officer for the Trust to oversee the clinical risk assessment of healthcare IT systems to determine if the IT product is acceptably safe to go live.
  • In collaboration with the Clinical Systems Team and other stakeholders, have an oversight of all systems used within the Trust as Clinical Safety Officer including RiO, System 1 and Joining Up Your Information (JUYI)
  • To ensure that all customising and configuration of systems or new products are clinically safe to go live by carrying out or signing off further risk assessments during the life of the product.
  • To maintain a hazard log and safety case and to monitor risk assessments whilst at the same time ensuring that clinical risk management activities are maintained during live service delivery.
  • Where necessary run clinical risk management workshops to formulate the hazard register and validate the evidence set out in the safety case.
  • To work with relevant internal and external stakeholders to take responsibility and accountability for digital clinical safety across the Trust.
  • Collaborates with clinical and non-clinical staff in planning and implementing clinical safety standards and policies aligned to the Digital Strategy.
  • To improve the safety of digital technologies within the Group
