Job summary

Please note change of closing date to 17th March at midnight.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and adaptable doctor to work within our integrated Sexual Health Service. Successful candidates will have excellent communication skills, the ability to work flexibly in a multi-disciplinary team and be someone who possesses a commitment to the delivery of the highest standards of care.

This role would be ideal for someone wanting to consolidate existing skills and learn new skills in sexual health.

Gloucestershire Care Health and Care Foundation NHS Trust manages the countywide Sexual Health Service which incorporates integrated sexual health (Genito-Urinary Medicine and Contraception), HIV, Pregnancy Advisory Service (PAS), Counselling Service, Psychosexual Medicine service and the SARC (sexual Assault Referral Centre).

The Service also has an active training program for the clinicians within the service and external clinicians involved in sexual health.

This role would be particularly suited to a current doctor in training looking to gain further experience and/or specialise in Sexual Health Medicine. We would also welcome MTI or international applicants.

  • To advise on contraception for young people and other vulnerable groups with awareness of Trust policy for young people.
  • To provide advice for both planned and unplanned pregnancy, and when appropriate promptly referring to Pregnancy Advisory Service (PAS)
  • Providing HIV outpatient clinics under consultant supervision (optional)
  • Providing Pre-Exposure and Post Exposure Prophylaxis for HIV
  • Undertake cervical screening and other investigations appropriate to reproductive health.
  • To be directly involved in patient management within the out-patient clinic settings, working in same day and routine integrated sexual health clinics across the service.
  • Work within the national clinical guidelines and local protocols that have already been developed within the department, and assist in continually reviewing the existing guidelines/protocols and development of new ones.
  • Prescribe and issue prescription-only medicines to patients including, when appropriate, contraception. Support nursing staff with the use and development of Patient Group Directions.

About us

At Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust, we are supportive of the people we care for in the community and aim to provide a fully responsive service to everyone who needs it. This is the same approach we take for our employees. We look to value the skills and experiences of those we work with, whether they are service users, carers, families or those looking to work with us.

Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust is part of the NHS. We treat NHS patients according to NHS principles and standards. The difference is the Trust is accountable to local people, rather than to Government, and so we are able to work closely with our community to develop services in the way that best suits the needs of local people.

Our Staff Survey results showed people at our Trust feel they are engaged, part of a team and work for a compassionate and inclusive organisation.

Our overall scores were better than average in eight of nine themes and level in one - the best overall results for a community, mental health and learning disabilities Trust in the south west and first equal amongst all sector NHS providers within the region too.
