The Health Visiting Service has an exciting 24 month apprentice opportunity, for a Registered Nursing Associate, who wishes to undertake further training towards a Registered Nursing qualification (Adult Nursing).
The Nursing Associate Apprentice will work alongside the Paediatric Liaison Public Health Nurse. The Nursing Associate will use a health promotion approach, with a focus on prevention and self-efficacy rather than treatment or cure. For example, promoting breastfeeding, responsive infant feeding, hygiene awareness, immunisations, oral health, providing support for parents to give up smoking and messages such as Choose Well and Smoke Free can reduce attendances at A&E and prevent hospital admissions.
The role will enable the RNA to utilise their accrued skills, knowledge and behaviours to work towards their full nursing registration.
Main duties of the job

The Nursing Associate will support dissemination of the common themes and issues behind the reasons for attending unscheduled care to the PHN team, this will influence and target health promotion messages and in turn, health outcomes for children and young people.
The Nursing Associate will support training programmes offered to nursing and medical staff within GHCFT, MIIU and ED regarding the role of public health nursing and unscheduled care attendances and the importance of effective liaison.
To support Public Health Nursing Teams in achieving effective Post-Secondary care follow up in unintentional injuries to support families following a child's attendance and/or admission to hospital.
The Nursing Associate will support delivery of the early years high impact area 5 (HIA) and aligned HIA's within school nursing, acting as a resource for the locality teams when appropriate. High impact area 5 includes a focus on supporting oral health, accident prevention and links to safety schemes and wider community resources; e.g. working with the Home Safety Team to support safety initiatives and wider public health events.

The successful applicant for the Nursing Associate 'Top Up' apprenticeship will be expected to enrol in the final 2 years of a BSc Nursing (Adult, Child) University Programme with an approved provider.
During the two year programme the Nursing Associate will continue to apply their existing knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and behaviours working in accordance with the Standards of proficiency for nursing associates (NMC 2018) and within their scope of practice to deliver service and care within Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust.
Additionally, they will be allocated supernumerary placements across a range of care settings to gain and embed clinical skills and knowledge to meet specific clinical competencies and learning outcomes under the support and direction of practice supervisors and practice assessors enabling them to register as a Nurse with the NMC.
