An exciting senior leadership opportunity within Speech and Language Therapy has become available within Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust.

The Head of Profession for Speech and Language Therapy is an important senior position within the organisation and will deliver robust professional leadership and engagement, drive high standards of care, and quality outcomes for the people we serve. The post holder will provide positive and visible leadership through a collaborative, creative, motivational, and problem-solving approach. They will drive a culture of continuous quality improvement, innovation and best patient experience. Our AHP leaders are well-respected across the system and are well-supported by dynamic and experienced colleagues.

Working as part of the senior leadership team, this post requires collaborative working with a range of operational, professional and corporate colleagues to ensure that the profession continues to deliver outstanding care and is equipped to meet the new and emerging opportunities ahead of us. The post holder will lead the development of evidence-based best practice, including innovative and evolving Speech and Language Therapy roles within the Trust and wider system. They will support the Trust's commitment to outstanding standards of quality governance, they will set/monitor quality standards, ensuring that our workforce has the right skills and support to deliver high quality services and work in partnership with operational colleagues to identify service priorities.

The post holder will meaningfully and effectively engage our SLT workforce in order to promote job satisfaction and best patient experience and outcomes. They will ensure that our workforce is developed and empowered to contribute to service improvement and innovation across the system.

This post requires the post holder to be able to undertake all statutory and mandatory training and post holders must be able to undertake physical interventions. Fitness for physical intervention will be assessed by Occupational Health.

  • Demonstrate expert knowledge regarding the delivery of speech and language therapy across Trust services: physical health, mental health, learning disability, and childrens services

  • Work collaboratively with operational managers and lead professionals to ensure that speech and language therapy development needs are identified and addressed in Service Development Plans, providing professional support to lead Speech and Language Therapists
  • Provide leadership to ensure the speech and language therapy workforce is engaged in delivering the quality and operational priorities of the organisation
  • Provide effective leadership of speech and language therapy development across the Trust, spanning physical health, mental health, learning disability, and childrens services.
  • Embed a culture of continuous learning and quality improvement
  • Lead on the development of speech and language therapy role modernisation and innovation within the Trust, working with colleagues in other professional groups to improve the effective and efficient delivery of services
