Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Children and Young People's Occupational Therapy Services as a Specialist Band 7 Clinical Lead. The Children's Occupational Therapy is part of an Integrated Children's Directorate providing services for children and young people with challenges to their physical health and also those with learning disability and autistic spectrum conditions within health, social care, education and the local acute hospital. We welcome applicants that have strong clinical skills alongside some leadership experience from a paediatric OT background.

Using the Canadian Model of Occupational Performance (CMOP), the service provides occupational therapy focussed assessment and intervention strategies across 0-18 years (19 if in education). Key aspects include:

  • Focus on the Care Aims ethos and approach to facilitate and enable clients to develop their own competencies
  • Focus on achieving better outcomes with identified physical functional independence needs within activities of daily living.
  • Core to service delivery is a commitment to a "whole system" approach and valuing strong partnership working with multi agency colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The Directorate provides a range of offers to make a positive difference to children's lives by providing inclusive services that strive to ensure best outcomes and service experience as well as facilitating personalised, needs led care. In addition. we work to continuously reduce barriers and enhance service offers which reach out to children and young people whose lives are affected by childhood health inequalities

The successful candidate will;

  • Provide clinical leadership and expertise within the service to ensure service delivery reflects best/evidence based practice as well as embracing continuous learning and improvement.
  • Independently manage a specialised clinical caseload of children/young people and their families, involving providing clinical assessment, advice and the delivery of treatment programmes for children and young people with complex physical healthcare needs
  • Provide clinical leadership and hold delegated line management responsibilities for junior staff as part of the senior management team in Children's Occupational Therapy Service.
  • Support delivery of Key Performance Indicators and service evaluation.
  • Work closely with CYPS allied health and nursing professionals to provide MDT working.

We are seeking a clinical practitioner who has the necessary professional qualifications, including current registration as outlined in the person specification. The post may require flexible working to meet the needs of the service.

This post requires the post holder to be able to undertake all statutory and mandatory training and post holders must be able to undertake physical interventions. Fitness for physical intervention will be assessed by Occupational Health.

A valid UK driving licence plus the use of own transport for business purposes is essential. For qualifying staff the Trust has a Lease Car Scheme in place and also offers a popular Salary Sacrifice Car Scheme with our partner Tusker.
