Job summary

Gloucestershire Health and Care Trust is pleased to offer a permanent Band 8a Clinical Psychology role within our Older People's Mental Health Service based at Avon House, Tewkesbury.

The work in the North Locality will involve inputting to the Community Mental Health (CMHT) and Memory Assessment Service (MAS) teams. These teams are well established, friendly and value input from psychology. The role includes specialist therapeutic work with individuals, couples, families and groups as well as neuropsychological assessment and interventions. The post holder will also be involved with indirect work including consultancy, teaching and supervision of colleagues

Main duties of the job

You will be joining a team of psychologists working with older people across Gloucestershire, all embedded within multi-disciplinary teams but working closely together to continuously improve service provision. We are a strong, stable and well-regarded service comprising a Consultant Lead Psychologist and seven Clinical Psychologists. We meet regularly for CPD, clinical and professional supervision and to work on joint service development and training projects.

Clinical Psychologists currently within the service offer formulation-driven therapeutic interventions from a range of models including CAT, Systemic, Compassionate Mind, CBT/Mindfulness and Neuropsychological approaches. We are keen to recruit someone who wishes to positively contribute to the skill mix within our team as well as the wider service.

About us

The post holder will also be encouraged to contribute to research and continue their professional development. There are good opportunities for CPD via internal events, HEE accredited training, the Bath University Clinical Psychology training course and funded individual training in line with agreed individual appraisal objectives.

There are good links with the Clinical Psychology Training Course at Bath University and psychologists in the service input to the Older Adult teaching programme, have trainees on placement and contribute to the selection process.

You will bring a strong interest in working with older people and their families and will be committed to the principles of person-centred and psychologically informed service delivery. You will be able to demonstrate professional and clinical skills directly relevant to the specialism including the use of neuropsychological assessment methods and formulation based interventions. This post would appeal to those who have a 'can do' attitude, and who would relish the opportunity to continue developing the service. The role requires an adaptable, flexible, resilient, hard-working team member who has excellent organisational skills and the ability to use their own initiative.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The Trust aims to recruit and retain the best possible staff who, through the application of their skills, qualification and experience, will make a positive contribution to our business of providing quality health care services. It is the Trusts view that the costs associated with moving house in order to take up a post with us should not restrict our ability to recruit the excellent people we need; therefore, we support staff to relocate with our relocation policy.

We welcome discussion/applications both from those with the relevant experience and HCPC registration, and also from those who are about to qualify / have more recently completed training. (In the latter case we would discuss amendments to role with a view to appointing at Band 7.)

We are keen to develop a more representative diversity of our senior staff and particularly encourage applications from those individuals with protected characteristics - in particular from women, ethnic minorities, LGBTQ+ and disabled candidates.

This post requires the post holder to be able to undertake all statutory and mandatory training and post holders must be able to undertake physical interventions. Fitness for physical intervention will be assessed by Occupational Health.

A valid UK driving licence plus the use of own transport for business purposes is essential. For qualifying staff the Trust has a Lease Car Scheme in place and also offers a popular Salary Sacrifice Car Scheme with our partner Tusker.

To ensure you fully understand how the Trust, as a Data Controller, will process and store your data please read the attached document Applicant and Staff Privacy Notice prior to applying for the role.

Candidates for any staff appointment shall, when making application, disclose in writing to the Trust whether they are related to any governor. Failure to disclose such a relationship may disqualify a candidate and, if appointed, may render them liable to dismissal.

Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust are proud to have been recognised as a Veteran Aware Trust, evidencing the provision of the best care for Veterans and driving to improve the care for veterans and their families. Find out more about this by clicking on the link at the right-hand side, titled Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance.

At Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust, we are supportive of the people we care for in the community and aim to provide a fully responsive service to everyone who needs it. This is the same approach we take for our employees. We look to value the skills and experiences of those we work with, whether they are service users, carers, families or those looking to work with us.

Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust is part of the NHS. We treat NHS patients according to NHS principles and standards. The difference is the Trust is accountable to local people, rather than to Government, and so we are able to work closely with our community to develop services in the way that best suits the needs of local people.
