Job summary

As part of Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust development of the Medical Examiner service, we have an exciting opportunity for a Medical Examiner Officer (Band 5) with a view to gaining experience and progressing to a Senior Medical Examiner Officer (Band 6).

Candidates with recent demonstrable experience as a Senior Medical Examiner Officer, are also welcome to apply for consideration at Band 6 level.

This role has been developed as part of the national implementation of the Medical Examiner service throughout England and Wales and as such will be involved in the development of the service across East Surrey. The successful candidate will have a proactive role in supporting the service,

As a Medical Examiner Officer, you will support the management of the Medical Examiner's office and work closely with the Medical Examiner team supporting them in their role of scrutinising the circumstances and causes of death of patients focusing on community deaths.

The role requires someone with a degree level education or equivalent experience; either with a professional clinical background or relevant experience in the bereavement or coroner service, as well as the ability to talk to bereaved families in a sensitive and appropriate manner.

As the role involves reviewing medical notes and working closely with doctors from all disciplines and grades, an understanding of medical terminology.
