Locum Consultant in General Internal Medicine (GIM)

Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust are seeking to appoint a full time Locum Consultant in General Internal Medicine on a fixed term 12 month contract basis to join an enthusiastic and established team of 6 consultants on the short stay units at East Surrey Hospital and to work in partnership with other Specialist Medical teams throughout the trust.

The successful applicant will form an expanded team of 8 full time equivalent Consultants in General Medicine taking it to full establishment and will be based at East Surrey Hospital. The service has been developed significantly over the last four years from 18 beds to four general medicine wards with total beds of 96 and its' onwards development is in line with RCP guidance across the trust. We are developing our outpatient service and we are now working closely with other specialty to create a new GIM clinics. Opportunities for special interests are available within the job plan including speciality clinic; Cancer, Diabetes and endocrinology, Infection Disease, Rheumatology, Ambulatory Emergency Care, Point of care ultrasound and Education.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for applicants with a wide experience in Acute and General Medicine who also have excellent team-working skills with the abilities and professional skills to lead service developments in the Trust. We are keen to promote education and learning and provide a good educational experience to trainee. We would welcome those with teaching skills and help support applications for honorary teaching posts at our associated medical school.
