Job summary
Consultant in General Internal Medicine (GIM)
We are seeking to appoint a full time Consultant Physician in General Internal Medicine to join a team of Consultants on the short stay units and to work in partnership with other Specialist Medical teams throughout the trust.
The creation of acute medicine as a specialty has been a great success; however the workforce is still insufficient to support on-going GIM care outside of acute medical units. The creation of acute medicine has also allowed other specialties to develop in their own right but has had the unintended consequence of some specialties dropping out of GIM rotas.
The role of general internal medicine for physicians is not universal but rather varies depending on the specialty and skills of the consultant physician and the setting in which they are working. Doctors working in general internal medicine (GIM) have particular expertise in diagnostic reasoning, managing uncertainty, dealing with co-morbidities (complex medical problems involving multiple symptoms and conditions) and recognising when specialty opinion or care is required.
Main duties of the job
Prospective candidates are encouraged to telephone in the first instance and then to arrange to visit.
Informal enquires are welcomed by:
Dr Hanadi Asalieh, Clinical Director for Complex Care and GIM Clinical Lead 01737 768511 x 2994 hanadi.asalieh@nhs.net or Dr Natalie Broomhead, Chief of Medicine, 01737 768511 x1666 (natalie.broomhead@nhs.net)
For further information, please also see the attached trust job description and person specification for a full list of duties and responsibilities.
