Job summary
We are delighted to be recruiting for a Physician Associate director for the Kent, Surrey and Sussex hub of the newly formed South East School of Physician Associates. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the development of the Physician Associate profession in the South East of England.
In 2015, HEE supported the development of the Kent, Surrey and Sussex (KSS) School of Physician Associates, the first of its kind in the UK. Over the past 7 years the School has supported the development of 3 successful regional University PA programmes, their students in provision of teaching events, preparation to practice and mock OSCEs as well as career and employer engagement events. The School have advised over 100 employers across the UK in developing the role of the PA and we now have over 190 Physician Associates working in KSS alone. 12 of the 14 acute and mental health trusts in region are now employing PAs. The KSS School have launched a successful GP PA preceptorship programme supporting PAs employed in primary care and work closely with Primary Care Networks, our post graduate Deans and GP and Primary Care Schools.
Main duties of the job
The PA Director will offer strategic leadership and oversight for the KSS hub and work collaboratively with TV/W hub colleagues to deliver the objectives for the SE School.
In 2022, further funding was agreed to allow the creation of the South East School of PAs, merging the KSS and Thames Valley and Wessex (TV/W) Schools of Physician Associates in order to create a unified vision and strategy for the South East. The South East School consists of two hub sites, one based at the Royal Berkshire Foundation Trust in Reading and the second at the former host site for the KSS School; Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. The focus for the work of the unified School over the next two years will be on supporting the 6 ICS regions in the South East, in employment, deployment, education and training, development and future workforce planning for Physician Associates.
