Assessment Suite Coordinator

Job summary

This is a unique and dynamic role at the heart of urgent mental health care, providing essential coordination and oversight of the Health Based Place of Saftey. You will be the central point of contact for the management of patients detained under the Mental Health Act, working closely with thepolice, Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs), and clinical teams.

Main duties of the job

  • Coordinate the operation of the 136 suite, ensuring a safe, efficient, and responsive environment for patients and professionals

  • Act as the liaison between police, AMHPs, clinicians, and other key stakeholders to facilitate timely assessments and interventions

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to detentions, assessments, and patient flow

  • Monitor bed availability and help ensure smooth transitions to appropriate care pathways

  • Support the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care during the assessment period

  • Participate in multi-agency reviews, audits, and service improvement initiatives

  • Requires strong communication and coordination skills in a fast-paced environment

  • Plays a vital role in the initial phase of urgent mental health care for some of the most vulnerable individuals in crisis

  • Supporting Daily Living Activities

    • Assist patients with personal care (washing, dressing, toileting if needed)

    • Help with meals and encourage good nutrition and hydration

    • Support patients in maintaining personal hygiene and dignity

  • Monitoring and Observations

    • Carry out and record regular physical and mental health observations (e.g. mood, behaviour, vital signs)

    • Report any concerns or changes to the nursing or medical team promptly

    • Attend mandatory training and development opportunities to enhance skills
