We are looking to recruit a Consultant Psychiatrist who holds the case load for the Children & Young Peoples (CYPS) learning disability service (LDS) which is a county wide service. They would be supported by an Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP) & potentially a lower grade doctor and student. The case load is complex, and you would require knowledge & experience of working within Learning Disabilities. This can be either adult or child as the skills are transferable. We are a small specialist service covering the county of surrey for CYPS from birth to age 18 years with a diagnosis of Learning Disability. We are friendly & supportive team that believes in seeing the ability not dis ability in our young people. We also work closely with our Mental Health support teams in schools (MHST) in 10 of the SLD Schools. We would want the post holder to be fully integrated as part of the multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

This post is for a Consultant Psychiatrist who holds the case load for CYPS LDS . They would be supported by an NMP & a lower grade doctor & student. You would require knowledge and experience of working within LDS. This can be either adult or child as the skills are transferable.

The role requires assessment & treatment of young people, as a service we are committed to STOMP / STAMP. You would be commencing medication & monitoring, considering the often-complex physical health needs of the young person. The main presenting need for psychiatry is anxiety which incorporate behaviour that challenges. The anxiety & behaviour will be assessed by the Nurses & strategies put in place prior to the young person seeing psychiatry for consideration of medication. You would be part of a Nurse lead service which incorporates psychology & music therapy.

  • MB BS or equivalent recognised medical qualification
  • Full medical registration with a license to practice

Desirable

  • Management qualification or evidence of an interest in developing leadership skills.
  • MRCPsych or equivalent

Eligibility
