We have an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Specialty Drin Liaison Psychiatric Services at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford

This post is based at our well-established Core 24 Liaison Service based at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. The Team is a multi-disciplinary comprising staff from different professional backgrounds and including administrative support.

Within Surrey and Borders Partnership Foundation NHS Trust we have an existing strong team of liaison psychiatrists with a range of skills and interests who provide assessment, diagnosis and ongoing care to people in Surrey.     • NHS Specialty grade £55,825 - £90,000 per annum + £149 fringe + on- call requirement

Main duties of the job

The SAS Dr is expected to support the liaison team in the assessment, diagnosis and management of patients and to provide medical expertise in the emergency department and inpatient wards of RSCH.

To support the liaison team in deciding the most appropriate intervention for patients referred to the service, either directly, or through the supervision of other team members.

To facilitate communication of relevant clinical information as appropriate. This will include facilitating discharge planning, whether that is to Primary Care or Secondary Care (CMHRS or acute services such as HTT, acute wards).

To provide advice to the team to manage the clinical caseloads and to the trainee doctors attached to the service.

To support the acute trust by providing relevant advice regarding the use of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act if relevant, for patients referred to the service, seeking consultant overview as required.

To develop, alongside other colleagues in the team, effective liaison with the medical, surgical, nursing and allied health professionals within the acute hospital.

  • MB BS or equivalent recognised medical qualification
  • Full medical registration with a license to practice

Desirable

  • Relevant higher degree, e.g. MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications
