Job summary

The Role: As a Band 8a Service Manager, you will be instrumental in operational management and service improvement initiatives. Working alongside the Associate Director, Professional Leads, Service Leadership team and staff, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective provision of safe, high-quality clinical services. Your role will include:

Providing operational leadership for the CMHRS.

Deputising for the other managers and covering leave in the locality.

Reviewing and improving services within the Division, considering local and national guidance.

Managing overall expenditure within the delegated budget.

Leading on demand and capacity profiling across the Division and as part of the Transformation programme to deliver Place-Based services.

About You:

Proven experience in operational management within a healthcare setting.

Strong leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team.

A commitment to continuous service improvement and delivering high standards of care.

Excellent financial and resource management skills.

A Nursing or other professional qualification is required.

Main duties of the job

  1. To establish and embed a senior clinical and leadership team function for the Trust wide CMHR service.
  2. To be responsible for developing and implementing strategies that promote an environment of user involvement and recovery.
  3. To be responsible for the development of a high-quality service that is responsive to individuals needs within the framework of the CMHR guidelines as set out in the Mental Health Policy Implementation Guide.
  4. To lead & motivate staff to provide a pro-active and responsive high-quality service, contributing to ongoing audit and evaluation
  5. To ensure that effective communications systems are established, maintained and monitored regularly within the Service & between the Teams & other services/agencies/partners.
  6. To provide line management, including management of performance, for staff within the Service
  7. To ensure that all staff fulfil the requirements of statutory & mandatory training and Supervision & Appraisal.
  8. To ensure compliance with all statutory, financial, health & safety & employment requirements
  9. To ensure service is delivered within agreed budget,including the achievement of agreed cost improvement plans, where required.
  10. To participate in the on-call rota.
  11. To be responsible for ensuring that they and all team members fulfil the Safeguarding Adults duties as a health care service and follow the Surrey County Council Safeguarding Adults process and procedures according to their roles and responsibilities.

Service Hours: The CMHRS service will aim to deliver a core service from 09.00 hrs to 17.00 hrs hours and provide extended opening times to best meet the needs of people who use the service and GPs.

Grade: AfC Band 8a

Location: Guildford CMHRS, Redwood Centre, Farnham Road Hospital, Guildford.

Responsible to: Southwest Adult Community Services Associate Director

Purpose

The CMHR Service Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day co-ordination and delivery of the Trust wide CMHR service. He/she, working in partnership with clinical leads will be responsible for the continued development of the service, working in line with the philosophy of CMHR. Responsibilities are to ensure the service operates in a safe, effective & efficient way as part of the whole system of mental health services. In addition, to foster a culture that encourages and enables individuals to have an active role in identifying, planning and meeting their individual needs.

The team is responsible for Secondary Mental Health Care. The Trust is embarking on a Transformation Programme, which will require services to review and design a clinical model in line with Place Based mental health care and partnerships

It is essential that the post holder is willing to work flexible hours as part of the team to ensure a comprehensive service delivery.

Principal Duties

To have overall continuous management of the CMHR service, responsible for the co-ordination of roles, responsibilities and resources within the service

  1. To establish and embed a senior clinical and leadership team function for the Trust wide CMHR service.
  2. To be responsible for developing and implementing strategies that promote an environment of user involvement and recovery.
  3. To ensure that the agenda of social inclusion is reflected in interventions offered and implemented.
  4. To be responsible for the development of a high-quality service that is responsive to individuals needs within the framework of the CMHR guidelines as set out in the Mental Health Policy Implementation Guide.
  5. To lead & motivate staff to provide a pro-active and responsive high-quality service, contributing to ongoing audit and evaluation.
