Job summary

Specialist Speech & Language Therapist - Adult Learning Disabilities Services, East Surrey.

We are keen to hear from you if you are a looking for a band 6-7 development opportunity or if you are already an experienced clinician looking for a band 7 post. We will consider part time or full-time applicants.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Speech and Language Therapist to be part of a forward-thinking adult learning disability health service consisting of Speech & Language Therapists, Nurses, Clinical Health Assistants, Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Physiotherapists, Arts Therapists, Dietitian and Podiatrist.

The post is based in one of our multi-disciplinary Community Teams for People with Learning Disabilities (Adults) covering East Surrey with two office bases in Leatherhead and Redhill. There is an expectation to work across the patch.

We will provide:

Active encouragement to access formal CPD

Supportive MDT working e.g. ASD assessment pathway and Positive Support Clinics.

Robust individual and group supervision including MDT group supervision

Appraisal programme

Excellent in-house training offering for leadership and soft skills courses.

Access to AHP Lead and AHP conferences.

Main duties of the job

o To support the Lead Speech & Language Therapist in delivering the Speech & Language Therapy provision within the service

o To support the development of clinical pathways and demonstrate a high level clinical expertise in an area of special interest

o To provide clinical supervision to junior staff

o To participate in peer supervision within the Learning disability division

o Ensure standards of service provision are followed, monitored and maintained

o To assess, plan, implement and evaluate the communication and eating and drinking needs of people with learning disabilities who use our services.

o To hold a complex caseload with a variety of needs

o To supervise and teach unqualified staff including students.

o To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in supporting those who use our service and their carers

You will need:

Experience of and specialist skills working with learning disabilities

Experience of supporting the evaluation of service delivery

Experience of providing supervision and an interest in developing leadership skills

Experience in developing and delivering training

Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team

Ability to work flexibly and independently

Enthusiasm, imagination and initiative

Ideally, you will have a full and valid driving licence and access to a vehicle for work.

The successful applicant will join a team of Speech and Language Therapists already working in East and West Community Teams as well as in the Neurodevelopmental, Children and Young Person's, Older Age Adults and Forensic services.

Our Speech & Language Therapists are committed to supporting individuals, their support networks and multi-disciplinary colleagues in the promotion of effective communication in a proactive, person-centred way. Another key part of the support to people who use our services is to promote their safe eating and drinking.

There is a robust system for peer support, managerial and clinical supervision. Continued professional development is encouraged and supported through yearly appraisal and six-monthly review.
