We are looking for three enthusiastic Assistant Psychologists to join our well established multi-disciplinary Community Team for People with Learning Disabilities (CTPLD).
These posts offer an excellent opportunity to work within a large and vibrant multidisciplinary team who work with adults with learning disabilities across the spectrum of need. You will be an integral member of a staff team who are passionate about improving the lives of people with learning disabilities, and are continually developing and implementing different approaches to meet peoples' needs.
We are looking for Assistant Psychologists who ideally have experience of working with people with learning disabilities and/or poor mental health. Please include in your application the reasons for why you are interested in working with people with learning disabilities.
These exciting posts cover a wide geographical area across West Surrey and North-East Hampshire, and flexible working across our three bases in Chertsey, Aldershot and Guildford is encouraged. The successful applicant's preferences will be taken into account when choosing which base they will be predominantly working from.
Due to the travel involved, we can only welcome applications from people with a current valid driving license who have access to a vehicle for work-related purposes.
Main duties of the job
Each postholder will work primarily on one of the following three workstreams.
- One postholder will work on our learning disability and dementia pathway alongside a Psychologist, other Assistant Psychologists, and the multi-disciplinary team. This involves conducting neuropsychological assessments and writing subsequent professional reports, providing dementia training to staff teams, and supporting with the reviewing of individuals with dementia.
- One post is focused purely on supporting the Psychologist and the wider multi-disciplinary team to provide our Positive Support (PS) clinic for people with a learning disability who present with behaviours that challenge. This role involves co-ordination of the clinic alongside assessment, formulation, and delivery of an effective therapeutic response through making recommendations to the direct support network. The postholder will gain experience of multidisciplinary working and consultation.
- One postholder will undertake detailed assessments to inform our understanding of whether a person has a learning disability (intellectual disability) and requires support from our specialist LD service. This includes taking developmental histories, conducting assessments of adaptive living skills, and understanding this information in the context of the person's wider life experiences.
