Job summary

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Senior Mental Health Eating Disorder Practitioner and FREED Champion to join our Trust-wide Adult Eating Disorders Service (AEDS). The post is substantive (1.0 WTE) and the successful applicant will be joining what are established outpatient and day care multi-disciplinary community services for adults with moderate to severe eating disorders. They will be joining a warm and welcoming team with a passion for the delivery of high-quality care. Prior experience of working with adults with moderate to severe eating disorder presentations is desirable and a keen interest in working in the specialism is essential.

The post holder has primary responsibility for ensuring its smooth and effective implementation and ongoing delivery of the Freed Pathaway. This will involve considerable liaison with Primary Care Services, education, and promotion of a new treatment pathway. The post holder manages all referrals for this pathway and offers initial triage, as well as providing a clinical service to people experiencing an eating disorder.

The post holder is based within the expanding Eating Disorders Service for Adults, which sits within the CYPS Division. The primary focus for the post holder is in working with clients accessing treatment through the FREED pathway, though the post holder will also contribute to, and is part of, the broader team.

Main duties of the job

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Core Clinical Function

To manage all referrals accessing the service via the FREED pathway, including initial triage and subsequent allocation.

  • To lead regular 'FREED Huddles' in the SABP locality, bringing together all clinicians involved in the FREED service delivery.
  • Assess patients referred to the service & co-produce appropriate treatment plans.
  • Use appropriate evidence-based treatment such as MANTRA, CBT-E, SSCM etc.

Manage and oversee management and care of service users with highly complex needs.

In addition, the post holder is responsible for liaising and working with other professionals as appropriate, alongside the promotion and development in the service of the FREED approach.

You will lead with other senior colleagues the continuing development of a high-quality service that is underpinned by evidence-based practice and care pathways / packages and NICE guidance and DoH guidance, leading on service development and policy in conjunction with the other senior clinicians, and Service Manager.

Core Non-Clinical Function

To continuously review the implementation of the FREED service model and care package, advising the Manager and Clinical Lead/s for Adult Eating Disorders on its progress, and identifying any areas for improvement or opportunities for further service development.

To be responsible for ensuring that required core outcome data are collated and reported back to the FREED Network as part of the operational agreement.

To proactively engage with the FREED project and join the ongoing FREED supervision groups.

Manage and coordinate multi-disciplinary meetings i.e. referral / review / business / handover.

In conjunction with the Service Leads, take a lead role in clinical service development and review.

Identify aspects of the service which need to be improved and implement appropriate changes in conjunction with the Service Leads.

Participate with the Service Lead for the recruitment of employees in accordance with Trust Recruitment Policy and NHS Safer Recruitment Guidelines. Ensure that appropriate corporate and departmental Induction is undertaken immediately following appointment and that staff records that are retained are accurate and up-to-date.

In conjunction with the Service Manager, work within the available budget of the service and attend regular Performance Management meetings.

Provide clinical leadership and professional expertise to the team.

Work closely with and assist the Service Leads with development and implementation of operational / clinical policies contributing to the formulation and review of appropriate policies.

Deliver training where appropriate for other professionals.

Lead the Team in the evaluation and monitoring of the FREED service in conjunction with the Service Leads

Provide clinical expertise and support to the Commissioning Panels (Health & Social Care)

Participate in SI investigations, disciplinary and grievance procedures plus any relevant investigations in line with Trust policies.

Ensure that the service through the implementation of performance management, all key performance indicators and targets identified by the Trust are met and adhere to local and government initiatives.

Responsible for the coordination and management of the FREED project in providing a safe, effective and therapeutic clinical service, ensuring the delivery of high-quality community mental health care packages.

Leadership and management responsibilities:

  • To contribute together with other AEDS Seniors to the setting, monitoring, and maintaining of standards of care and advise on clinical issues which may have a negative effect on the standards of clinical practice being delivered.
  • To be responsible for your own practice in accordance with your professional body / bodies and therapy qualification and take every reasonable opportunity to sustain and develop your professional competence.
