Job summary

We are delighted to be recruiting a 3rd Year Trainee Clinical/Counselling Psychologist or HCPC registered Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to join SABP's Tandridge Community Mental Health Recovery Services (CMHRS)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and innovative 3rd Year Trainee Clinical/Counselling Psychologist/ or HCPC Clinical/Counselling Psychologist with experience of, and a keen interest in mental health. We welcome applicants who are either in the third year of a formally taught Clinical/Counselling Psychology Doctorate, newly qualified or qualified with post-qualification experience. Any job offer will be dependent on meeting the person spec and/or HCPC registration. Any candidates who are within 12 months of attaining HCPC registration are encouraged to apply as well.

The candidate must have a full and valid driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes due to the community element of this role and the large geographical area that this post covers.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will utilise a diverse range of professional skills including comprehensive assessments and formulations, therapy interventions, consultation and training to non-psychology colleagues, and contribution to service development initiatives.

The post holder will be professionally supervised by an experienced HCPC Applied Senior Psychologist and will be well supported within the psychology departments, where Continuing Professional Development and staff support are highly valued.

There will also be opportunities to meet regularly with other Trainee and qualified Psychologists across the Trust for CPD events and service development/transformation projects

Job Overview

To be a core member of the multidisciplinary team, participating in the provision of assessments, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the psychological needs of people using our services to promote health independence and recovery. A Band 6 will be offered close supervision of an (HCPC) registered practitioner psychologist.

Key Responsibilities

Band 6

To maintain high standards of care in all areas of practice in accordance with the HCPC Code of Conduct, professional guidelines and Trust Policies and Procedures. To act within the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act (2005). To be aware of and implement Safeguarding Adult and Child Protection Policies, procedures and legislation.

Under the supervision of a HCPC registered practitioner psychologist, carry out comprehensive psychological and cognitive assessments, formulate psychological needs, and plan, implement and evaluate delivery of individual and group psychology interventions and consultations.

To actively involve people in developing and agreeing their own care plan, to act as an advocate and ensure that there is proper regard for their dignity, choice, self-esteem, racial, cultural, sexual and religious needs and preferences.

To work creatively to adapt verbal and written communication to meet the needs of people who use our services

To undertake comprehensive risk assessments and develop effective risk management plans that are shared with the service user and MDT.

Ensure that a carers assessment is offed to carers of service users, as in line with Standard 6 of the National Service Framework.

To establish and maintain effective partnerships and relationships with colleagues, other agencies, people who use services and their carers and support staff.

To contribute to conducting clinical audit, quality assurance and research, maintaining current knowledge of research findings and development within specific care group

To contribute to developing and providing a range of specialist teaching/training packages which can be delivered to a range of multi-disciplinary audiences.

To positively contribute to divisional and team developments in relation to all aspects of psychology practice.

To contribute to initiatives to ensure that the diverse needs of people within the care group are addressed within local services and future developments.

Ensure detailed and appropriate records are maintained to demonstrate that contact with people who use services, and their carers, is meaningful and effective.

To show personal and professional development through weekly clinical supervision, shadowing, joint working, personal study/CPD and reflection.

Band 7 Key responsibilities

To lead and hold professional responsibility for the psychological care plan for individuals who use our services.

To contribute to the supervision and Individual Performance Review/Appraisal of assistant psychologists, trainee psychologists and other professionals as required.

To contribute to the development and implementation of appropriate policies, protocols and care pathways.

To lead the development, maintenance, and monitoring of service standards, collect and collate data/ information effectively for the purpose of audit, research, and service performance.

Development Expectations: Overview.

The person will be allocated an (HCPC) registered practitioner psychologist to support them throughout their band 6 preceptorship. The following is an outline of the development expectations over time for the post. However, it is not exhaustive.

The clinical and managerial supervision process within the Community CMHRS teams will monitor and tailor the process to each individual and will monitor progress after 6 months.

It is expected that by the end of the 3rd year of training on the Clinical/Counselling Psychology Doctorate the person will be able to demonstrate meeting the required competencies at a Band 7 level as outlined in the above job description and that the person has taken direct responsibility for that development or communicated difficulties in doing so via the support systems provided.
