Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a staff nurse to join a 20 bedded acute inpatient assessment unit for older adult service. New Spenser ward is a busy unit, the friendly and enthusiastic team aim to provide a holistic assessment and treatment for older adults, suffering from functional illness. New Spenser ward is based in Chertsey (St Peters Hospital Campus).
The position of the staff nurse is to ensure that service users needs are met and to assist team in maintaining high standards of care delivery. We are looking for candidates with good communication skills, a flexible approach and enthusiasm to work within the team. Candidate will assist team to develop and achieve ward and organisational objectives. Candidate will participate in staff meetings and training and development activities as necessary to ensure their skills and knowledge are up to date.
You will be playing a pivotal role in providing excellent support and care for people who uses our service.
To provide the highest standard of personal care and assistance to the people who use our service, always promoting their dignity, individuality and maintain a safe and secure environment for their wellbeing.

Main duties of the job
- Responsible & Accountable for the work of junior staff, making judgements regarding client care. In accordance with all relevant Trust/local policies. The ability to be an effective problem solver.
- Accountable and responsible for their own practice and that of the practice of all junior staff within the shift. Responsible for future planning of the shift and that of three days ahead as per local policy. To work within legislation of the health and safety act 1974 as set in local & trust policies.
Responsible and accountable for the safety of all within the unit. Effective team working, effective delegation of staff, objectives. Effective time management of self and others
Effective communication good verbal skills legible written skills as per NMC Record keeping Guidelines, Sensitive and empathetic approach specific people skills. Ability to problem solve and effective management of conflict.
- Demonstrate clinical knowledge in the care of older adult with mental health needs.
- Demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively at all levels. Promote a therapeutic environment and relationship.
- Demonstrate knowledge and/or experience of working with older adults. Have a positive attitude towards older adults and recognition of the issues related to gender and age.
