Job summary

Our older peoples in-patient services provide specialist care to older people with mental health problems and/or dementia, across Surrey and North East Hampshire. We have three in-patient units based at Chertsey, Epsom and Guildford, where psychology play a central role in providing high-quality assessments, formulation and direct interventions, as well as supporting the ward teams through training, supervision, reflective practice and complex case discussions.

We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and innovative Principal Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to provide strong clinical leadership to our team of in-patient psychologists, and to work alongside other senior operational and clinical leads to maintain a culture of compassionate, person-centred care, where staff feel appreciated and valued

Main duties of the job

Leadership:

With a good grasp of current literature, you will ensure our team of qualified Clinical Psychologists and Assistant Psychologists are providing evidence-based, high quality care. As a compassionate leader, you will develop strategies around recruitment and retention to ensure the team feel engaged, valued, and supported to develop in their roles.

Across all three units there is a strong MDT approach, where psychology is seen as a valuable resource. You will be working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams and the senior leadership team, where you will be expected to develop the role of psychology within the service as well as play a key role in the shaping of culture and processes on our wards.

Clinical sessions

You will lead the psychology provision at The Meadows 24 bed in-patient unit in Epsom. This inpatient unit includes the 16 specialist acute dementia beds for Surrey and 8 functional in-patient beds. As well as links with the CMHTOPs, the service has close links with the Psychology led dementia care homes pathway team. You will conduct detailed assessments, formulation, therapeutic intervention, and neuropsychological assessments, covering both mental health and dementia.

You will be professionally supervised by the Lead Consultant Psychologist for Older Peoples services, in addition to specialist group neuropsychology supervision from one of our Clinical Neuropsychologists.
