We are looking to recruit Healthcare Assistants and Healthcare Support Workers in our Older People's Mental Health Service based at The Meadows, in Epsom, an Inpatient Unit in a 24/7 hospital service, with 24 beds, and 3 single sex wards, primarily for the care of people aged over 65 years who have dementia or organic mental ill-health.

Ideally, you are enthusiastic and caring, and would like to work as a Health Care Support Worker. In this vital care support role, you will develop professional healthcare experience and be part of the nursing team working hands-on in a hospital to help care for people who have a range of diverse and mental health problems or learning disabilities.

Main duties of the job

Summary of day-to-day responsibility

To observe, report and record changes in the patient's physical and mental health and behaviour
To provide care for people who use our services as planned in Multi disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings
To be aware of and work to the principles of the Mental Health Act (MHA)
To give and receive clear messages by telephone and or personal contact
To provide the necessary physical care to people who use our services to help them complete daily living activities i.e. personal hygiene, diet and fluid intake, clothing and laundry, personal environment, elimination, maintaining rest and sleep and activity, physical observations.

Care Certificate

If you do not already have a Care Certificate, we will support you to achieve this. The Care Certificate is available for all new and existing Health Care Assistants and Health Care Support Workers. All Staff will be invited to a Care Certificate Induction and will be supported through the 15 Standards of the Care Certificate.

English and Maths Functional Skills

If you do not already have your Level 2 Functional Skills English and Maths/GCSE/O-Level Grades C/4 and above, we will help you to work towards achieving these qualifications.

Apprenticeships

We offer our Health Care Assistants and Health Care Support Workers the opportunity to complete Apprenticeships subject to minimum entry requirements, for example, Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship and the Level 5 Nursing Associate Apprenticeship Programme. The Level 3 Apprenticeship leads to a Diploma and the Level 5 Apprenticeship, a Foundation Degree. The Apprenticeships are fully funded, so there is no cost to you personally. All our inpatient Units work 24/7 rotational shifts which require people to work days, nights and weekends - our full-time hours are 37.5 per week and each shift is 12.5 hours. The Trust has an e-rostering system in place which allocates the shift pattern for each employee.
