Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to join Surrey Mindworks Children and Young Person's (CYPS) Community Team (North East) to cover the current post-holder's maternity leave. The successful applicant will assess the psychological needs of young people using our services, and plan, implement and evaluate specialist psychological interventions. They will work with diverse children, young people and families with complex and challenging mental health needs. They will mentor, supervise and teach both qualified and unqualified staff, including Trainee Clinical Psychologists from the University of Surrey. They will promote a psychological formulation based approach within the team and will contribute psychological perspectives and advice within team meetings. They will participate in the recruitment of psychological staff. They will lead on service development projects, for example outcome methods and/or group work. They will be supported to continue to develop their own professional skills in order to develop clinical expertise. The NE and SE Community Team works together to provide an established, friendly and supportive multi-disciplinary team. Due to the range of skills of team members, practitioner psychologists are able to focus on specialist psychology work rather than generic or duty tasks. There are ample opportunities for high quality and specialist training to support the successful applicants career development.

Main duties of the job

To carry out specialist psychological assessments.

To plan, implement and evaluate psychological interventions.

To provide supervision, consultation and training to qualified and unqualified staff.

To contribute a psychological perspective to team meetings.

To work with Mindworks Surrey Partners, Education, Social Care and other agencies as required.

To lead on service development projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of clinical work and care. To maintain high standards of care in all areas of practice in accordance with the HCPC Code of Conduct, professional guidelines and Trust Policies and Procedures. To act within the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act (2005). To be aware of and implement Safeguarding Adult and Child Protection Policies, Procedures and legislation.
  • To carry out comprehensive psychological and cognitive assessments and formulation, plan implement and evaluate delivery of psychology interventions and consultations to support children and people with specific and complex needs.
  • To actively involve people in developing and agreeing their own care plan, to act as an advocate and ensure that there is proper regard for their dignity, choice, self-esteem, racial, cultural, sexual and religious needs and preferences..
  • To work creatively to adapt verbal and written communication to meet the needs of children and young people who use our services.
  • To undertake comprehensive risk assessments and develop effective risk management plans for people with complex needs.
  • To establish and maintain effective partnerships and relationships with colleagues, other agencies, children/ young people who use services and their carers and support staff.
  • To conduct and lead on clinical audit, quality assurance and research, maintaining current knowledge of research findings and development within specific care group.

  • Demonstrable post registration/clinical experience and competency relevant to this care group.

  • Demonstrable interest/skill in a relevant specialist area.
