Job summary

Are you a passionate accredited counsellor with experience of working in primary care, preferably IAPT. Mind Matters are looking to recruit fully accredited Counsellors with demonstrable experience of providing counselling for depression within a counselling organisation.

We would like to hear from you if you can meet these minimum standards for training and professional registration;

- Completion of BACP Accredited Counselling Qualification Level 4 & above, or equivalent qualification with a minimum of450 supervised client hours.

- Completion of the IAPT Person Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression (PCE-CFD) Training.

For those qualified Counsellors who have not yet completed the PCE-CFD IAPT training, Mind Matters will fund completion of this qualification. Once completed, there is an expectation that you will work for Mind Matters for 1.5 years post training.

You must hold Professional Registration, one of below

- BACP with Full Accreditation

- UKCP with Full Registration

- NCS Fully Accredited professional registrants

- ACC Full Accreditation

Main duties of the job

Mind Matters Surrey IAPT is part of the Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Trust and provides high quality evidence based psychological therapies for people with common mental health problems.

You will be delivering counselling for depression using a stepped care model in line with the national IAPT programme and latest NICE guidance for psychological interventions. The role involves delivering one to one Counselling, Assessments and therapeutic groups.

All staff receive weekly supervision and monthly line management and attend quarterly CPD days which count towards your CPD. Mind Matters has a focus on Staff Wellbeing with a committee who plan staff activities and an annual Wellbeing Day.

The job role will be a blend of home working and will include a minimum of 2 days in person clinics at Redhill Trust Hub location.

As Matters Surrey IAPT services provides psychological treatments Monday Weds 9.00am 8pm and the rest of the week and Saturdays 9-5pm, you will be expected to work a minimum of one late night per week and desirably a Saturday.

Job responsibilities

Principal Duties:

CLINICAL

1.1. To provide a comprehensive assessment and therapeutic service for adult patients with common mental health problems referred to the IAPT SABP service based on sound, evidence based psychological principles, working within the context of primary care services.

1.2. Assess clients for suitability for Counselling and other modalities. To provide specialist psychological treatment based upon clearly accepted, evidence- based principles (e.g.N.I.C.E. guidelines for Depression) to treat common mental health problems, including mood and adjustment disorders and other problems not of a severity requiring multidisciplinary specialist mental health services

1.3. Make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the departments referral protocols, and refer unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary.

1.4. To make an assessment of risk for patient and others and take appropriate action when necessary.

1.5. Adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the number of client contacts offered, and clinical sessions carried out per week in order to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.

1.6. Liaise with referrers and attend meetings relating to referrals or clients in treatment, where appropriate.

1.7. Complete all requirements relating to data collection and compliance within the service.

1.8. Keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols

1.9. Work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach.

2. Assess and integrate issues surrounding work and employment into the overall therapy process

Teaching, Training and Supervision

1. To receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with Trust and professional bodies (BACP/UKCP/NCS/ACC) guidelines and the IAPT Manual national recommendations .

2. To take part in regular internal continuing professional development and participate in external CPD which is linked to appraisal goals.

3. To provide training sessions on specific topics to members of the PHCT and to trainee counsellors as required.

PROFESSIONAL

2.1. Ensure the maintenance of standards of practice according to the employer and any regulating, professional and accrediting bodies (e.g., BABCP, UKCP), and keep up to date on new recommendations/guidelines set by the department of health (e.g. NHS plan, National Service Framework, National Institute for Clinical Excellence).

2.2. Ensure that client confidentiality is protected at all times.

2.3. Ensure clear professional objectives are identified, discussed and reviewed with senior therapists on a regular basis as part of continuing professional development.

2.4. Attend clinical/managerial supervision on a regular basis as agreed with Manager.

2.5. Participate in individual performance review and respond to agreed objectives.

2.6. Keep up to date all records in relation to Continuous Professional Development and ensure personal development plan maintains up to date specialist knowledge of latest theoretical and service delivery models/developments.

2.7. Attend relevant conferences / workshops in line with identified professional objectives.

General
