We are looking to recruit Healthcare Assistants in our Older Adult Mental Health Service based in Victoria Ward, Farnham Road Hospital in Guildford, a 20 bed Inpatient Unit.
Ideally, you are enthusiastic and caring, who would like to work as a Health Care Support Worker. In this vital care support role, you will develop professional healthcare experience and be part of the nursing team working hands-on in an In-patient Unit to help care for people who have a range of diverse and mental health problems or learning disabilities.

Victoria Ward consists of 24 beds for older persons suffering from an acute mental health crisis - as a result of conditions such as depression and bi-polar disorder. We provide admission for persons in the South West Surrey district who are in need of short stay inpatient individual assessment, treatment and rehabilitation.

- To observe report
and record changes in the clients physical, mental health and behaviour
- To provide care
for people who use our services as planned in Multi disciplinary Team (MDT)
meetings
- To be aware of
and work to the principles of the Mental Health Act (MHA)
- To give and
receive clear messages by telephone and or personal contact
- To provide the
necessary physical care to people who use our services to help them complete
daily living activities i.e. personal hygiene, diet and fluid intake, clothing
and laundry, personal environment, elimination, maintaining rest and sleep and
activity, physical observations
- To act in a
manner to respect the customs, individuality, values, sexuality and spiritual
beliefs, activity, supporting the individual to fulfil these
- To provide social
activities, emotional support and stability people who use our services to
ensure effective engagement whilst
maintaining professional boundaries
- To contribute in
the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluating care
- To create and
maintain professional supportive relationships with all members of staff with
other professionals and agencies to enhance recovery
- To provide escort
duties to people who use our services under the direction of the nurse in
charge.
- To carry out
observations as per individual care plans, client needs, in line with HPT Trust
Policy
- To participate in
where required co-facilitate in therapeutic and social engagement group work.
- To undertake
prescribed physical l observations as follows:
blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respirations, blood sugars,
urinalysis, weight and height and report results to the nurse in charge

If you do not already have your Level 2 Functional Skills English and Maths/GCSE/O-Level Grades C/4 and above, we will help you to work towards achieving these qualifications.
Apprenticeships
We offer our Health Care Assistants the opportunity to complete Apprenticeships subject to minimum entry requirements, for example, Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship and the Level 5 Nursing Associate Apprenticeship Programme. The Level 3 Apprenticeship leads to a Diploma and the Level 5 Apprenticeship, a Foundation Degree. The Apprenticeships are fully funded, so there is no cost to you personally.
