Job summary
An excellent opportunity has arisen to come and be part of our dynamic occupational therapy service. As a service we have developed innovative ways of delivering evidenced based and outcome measured occupational therapy in the Older People Service to support those on their individual recovery journey, including a variety of occupational focused group programmes. The post will include delivering both individual and group occupational therapy interventions within a clear care pathway. Interventions include;
- Lifestyle Matters Programme – a 20 session group which utilises Lifestyle Redesign© principles.
- Memory Matters Programme – a 6 session group for people with early stages of dementia and their carers.
- Individual occupational therapy assessments and interventions.
We use the Model of Human Occupation to guide all our occupational therapy assessments and interventions. We are particularly focusing on embedding occupational science and neuroscience into our practice. The Occupational Therapy Leadership team is committed to an extensive, coordinated CPD programme including Trust wide training, core competence training, annual conferences, robust supervision structure, specialist interest groups and Older People’s care groups. Staff are valued for their expertise in occupationally focused interventions and specialist group therapy.
Main duties of the job
This post is a Band 5 development post which is an amazing opportunity to develop your occupational therapy skills through participating in the Developing Specialist Scheme provided by the Trust.
The Developing Specialist Scheme includes:
- Preceptorship programme
- Core skills training
- OT forums
- Regular supervision with peers and supervisor.
Once the agreed competencies have been completed then you will progress to a Band 6 Occupational Therapist within the Mid Surrey sector Older People's Community Mental Health Team. The Mid Sector comprises of three Community Mental Health Teams who are based at Horizon House in Epsom. The Community Mental Health Teams for Older People support people who are 65 and over with functional mental health conditions or dementia.
This post is suitable for anyone who has consolidated their core skills and competencies through the occupational therapy preceptorship process.
This post also provides an opportunity to develop skills in care coordinating individuals with an occupational therapy focus and being part of the assessment team.
