The Meadows is a single storey building in the grounds of
the Noble Park housing development in the former West Park Hospital site in
Epsom.
This is a 24/7 hospital service with 24 beds available for
the care of people aged over 65 years who have dementia or organic mental
ill-health (i.e. decreased function due to medical or physical disease, rather
than a psychiatric illness).
There are three single sex wards, each with eight beds:
One ward is for people with mental ill-health (functional,
e.g bipolar or depression)
Two wards are for people with dementia.
Main duties of the job
Ensure the service operates in a safe,
effective & efficient way as part of the whole system of mental health
services.
Foster a culture that encourages and enables
individuals to have an active role in identifying, planning and meeting their
individual needs.
Promoting improvement in health and wellbeing
including mental health.
Provide leadership to the junior staff
through supervision and actively participate in the smooth running of the ward
over a 24 hour period.

1. Other members of the multidisciplinary team
2. Internal/External partnership with colleagues from other Mental Health
Teams/Services
3. Other care groups and Surrey County Council to build and maintain
professional relationships with other agencies
Main responsibilities/Principal Duties:
The post holder will:
1. Be competent as appropriate to the requirements of the role.
2. Be a Clinical Team Leader with evidence of detailed professional
development and clinical knowledge.
3. Have supervisory, training and leadership responsibilities where
appropriate and will have some responsibility for team performance and service
developments/ improvements.
4. Demonstrate initiative and be creative in finding solutions to problems.
5. Work with the Ward Manager/Deputy Ward Manager undertaking delegated
tasks in team management.
6. Act as a role model for colleagues and others in relation to
professional and personal conduct and practice.
Clinical
responsibilities:
The post-holder will:
1. Have a wide base of clinical skills, knowledge and experience
appropriate to the needs of individual patients over the age of 65 years
presenting with mental health needs.
2. Demonstrate a high standard of record keeping and documentation with
adherence to trust policy and an understanding of professional guidelines and
application of confidentiality.
3. Work with colleagues to develop and promote the philosophy of integrated
care, framework of care delivery and strategic objectives, taking
responsibility for specific areas of policy and strategy delivery.
4. Deliver care that is evidence based, reflecting current best practice
and research.
5. Actively participate in structured regular management supervision
provided by designated line manager in accordance with Trust policies and
procedures.

Demonstrate clinical
excellence and high standards of nursing practice to other colleagues.

Will be expected to work
flexibly in line with the hours of operation.
8. Demonstrate a sound understanding of the legal and ethical issues in
caring for people in ill-being with mental health conditions. In particular, demonstrating sound

care planning.
