Job summary

The UX Design Specialists makes better lives by ensuring that the optimal solution is identified, that the design solution meets the requirements from all perspectives. Ensuring the delivery of high quality and usable end products that meet the needs of clinicians and people who use our services.

SABP Digital has the complex challenge of running and building secure and robust digital platforms to deliver and enhance health and care, as well as acting as a driver to improve clinical operations and value for money from the Trust’s investment in technology.

Working as a UX Design specialist you will be part of a design team developing successful digital solutions. The post holder will develop and apply their design skills in; service design, interaction design and graphic design or combination.

Suitable for someone who has excellent communication skills and is able to engage with staff at all levels. Has a sound understanding of SystmOne with an aptitude to become a subject matter expert. Is able to learn new technologies quickly and understands the way technology is used, is paramount to its effectiveness. It will suit someone who has a good level of understanding and experience of UX design and best practices of user centred design and is able to describe both with clarity to team members and project stakeholders

Main duties of the job

· Develop designs based on evidence of user needs and organisational outcomes.

· Work with other designers to develop design ideas and improvements

· Prototype design ideas in various methods including configuration in the demo environment.

· Interpret evidence-based research and include it in their work.

· Support the values and standards of inclusive and accessible design.

· Communicate ideas in a way that other people understand.

· Make smart choices and recognise when to ask for further guidance and support.

· Review their own work and focus on areas for improvement.

You will represent the design team to internal and external customers and suppliers, be able to demonstrate a good knowledge of a range of design disciplines and understand the importance of design. You should have, or be developing, an awareness of lean and agile methods and using a shared toolkit of techniques, processes and systems. You will be expected to be flexible and will be comfortable working on different projects and services as business priorities and demands change.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead design sessions to elicit and discover design requirements from a diverse range of stakeholders where expert opinion may differ, to develop design concepts by selecting appropriate design techniques taking into account user needs, development, and business constraints.
    • Develop excellent working relationships with design team members, NHS Digital and external stakeholders, to senior management and director level. Use formal and informal channels, to ensure that design information is communicated effectively.
    • Establish design standards to ensure a consistent look and feel.
    • Use the appropriate local and NHS Digital methods, guidelines, policies and standards for the design specialism. This can include the following standards such as: The NHS Digital Service Manual, NHS Identity Branding Guidelines, Government Digital Service Manual.
    • Proactively identifies gaps, discrepancies and inconsistencies in information and selects the most appropriate option to resolve these.
    • Lead on the production of solutions to ensure that designs and related activities are fully documented (e.g. User Interface flows, Design Kanban board, prototypes for usability tests) and reviews drafts created by others.
    • Implement plans to test and refine “design” ideas at key stages in projects in order to improve the effectiveness of design development activities.
    • Adjust plans to accommodate short-notice and ad-hoc changes to content to meet day-to-day business requirements and unexpected demands, while maintaining overall quality and design integrity.
    • Plans and prioritises own work to ensure deadlines are met as well as co-ordinating others.

    · Promote the Digital design team within the organisation through adherence to and demonstration of best practice. Manages communications with key stakeholders to develop and iterate documentation.

    · Collates and presents complex and technical information clearly and concisely, adapting communication style to meet the needs of a variety of audiences.

    · Demonstrates strong written and verbal skills. Drafts discussion guides and surveys that meet the project objectives.

    · Produces accurate, relevant and timely oral and written communication to relevant parties such as team members, senior managers and stakeholders through email, written reports, slide decks.

    • Maintains an up to date awareness of local and national Policies and developments and proposes subsequent required amendments to projects.
    • Understands the strategic direction of the organisation beyond own work activity.
    • Develop and maintain a good knowledge of the relevant project topic, including the clinical and business benefits. Use this to inform relevant others about the project.

    • Travel across sites as required
