Job summary

We are looking for a highly dedicated nurse, occupational therapist or social worker to join our Liaison Psychiatry Service at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford Surrey

By providing expert interventions and oversight to the care of older people within the Acute General hospital pathway. Who will ensure that the care delivered is excellent and in keeping with the most up to date guidelines. The applicant will have a good knowledge of Mental Health within working age adults.

Will support the growth and development of other members of the Liaison psychiatry team whilst supporting the service manager and wider Trust to achieve an exemplary underpinning our visions and values. The role will include providing education, challenging stigma and actively supporting service improvement and development.

You will put the experience of the person using the service at the centre of my decision making whilst building and maintaining supportive and responsive relationships with colleagues in the Acute Trust.

Main duties of the job

Functioning already at CORE 24 the multidisciplinary team operates a shift system across a 24hr period seven days a week. You will be working as a lead clinician primarily assessing patients referred from our inpatient wards or those who present to the Accident and Emergency Department.

You will have a positive approach to work, with an outstanding, demonstrable background of providing high-quality care. You will have an insight into liaison psychiatry and the national guidelines impacting these services. Experience and willingness to teach and educate others within the team and the wider hospital network is required. Service development and improvement will be integral to the role, promoting the best possible outcomes for people in the acute hospital setting.

This is a challenging but rewarding role, offering an exciting opportunity for a clinician who has strong assessment and therapeutic skills. You will need the ability to work autonomously whilst still contributing to the team as a whole. Previous experience of working in Liaison Psychiatry and across ages is desirable, although not essential.

We offer excellent staff support through clinical supervision, group supervision and inclusive teamwork. The role and service encourage and promotes staff development.

Who has particular experience in working with individuals with dementia and their carers.

Has a positive attitude to service improvement and development and can enthusiastically engage partners, provide training and support the development of other staff.

Enjoys teaching and training and is willing to provide supervision to colleagues specific to the assessment and treatment of people with dementia and older people with functional mental illness.

· To undertake initial assessments and follow up reviews of older people presenting with mental health issues or a possible dementia at Frimley Park Hospital (currently inpatient wards and A+E).

· To deliver teaching and training to both Frimley Park Hospital staff and to SABP colleagues

· To support relevant strategy and policy development at Frimley Park Hospital

· To support relevant audits and quality improvement initiatives within the liaison service and at Frimley Park Hospital

· To work collaboratively with the service manager and Multi- disciplinary team to develop outstanding liaison psychiatry services.

· To engage staff and external partners positively and constructively, in line with the Trusts Clinical and Commercial strategy, supporting the Trusts Vision and Values

· To assist in the development of practical innovative and creative solutions to clinical and service delivery issues encountered within the liaison setting

· To support the service manager and clinicians in the liaison service with the development of sustainable service improvements in line with national specifications, local implementation requirements and a set financial envelope.

· To promote and introduce systems to continuously improve quality of care, drawing on national and trust guidance, in particular CQC standards

· To promote and encourage multi-dimensional and multi-cultural aspects of assessment and treatment

· To promote equitable access to services for older adults and parity of esteem for those experiencing mental and physical health difficulties
