Job Description:
We are looking to recruit a motivated,
committed and autonomous practitioner who has experience of working with Older Adults within our
Liaison Psychiatry Service at St Peter's Hospital.
Our service is a PLAN (Psychiatric Liaison Accreditation Network) accredited, CORE 24, Psychiatric Liaison Service. We operate 24/7
throughout the year. We work within the general hospital based at St Peter's Hospital, providing mental health assessments for patients who are
either in A&E or on the wards. We work alongside a wide range of partners, all
of whom are committed to improving the health and well-being of our adults in
Surrey.
The Trust is keen
to support their staffs personal development, well being and various training is provided
to assist their career pathway including undertaking all statutory and mandatory
training.

Main duties of the job
Applicants will require a sound knowledge base and experience of managing dementia and other mental health difficulties commonly found in older people.
It is also necessary to have knowledge of older peoples physical health problems.
The role involves autonomously carrying out generic mental health assessments and treatments whilst working closely with our acute colleagues and other team members.
The post involves fostering staff relationships and supporting and working closely with our physical health colleagues and the care of the elderly wards.
The post holder would be expected to work a shift pattern which covers 24/7, working Monday through to Sunday on long days.
You must be comfortable working both autonomously and within a team.
As part of your role you will be expected to provide teaching to hospital staff.
Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and regular professional supervision are a priority for the Trust as such you will receive regular supervision working within this role.

Qualifications
Essential
- Clinical Practitioner with current NMC, HCPC, AHP or relevant registration body.
- Mentorship Training Qualification (Practice Assessor/ ENB 998).
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
Desirable
- Educated to degree level of nursing or other courses relevant to Liaison Psychiatry e.g brief focussed therapy, CBT, etc.
- Dual trained RMN/RGN
Experience
Essential
- Demonstrable experience of working with older people with a variety of mental health issues for at least 5 years.
- Experience of working in a liaison psychiatry / crisis team / community setting.
- Demonstrable knowledge of the Mental Health Act (1983), the Mental Capacity Act (2005) & DOLS & how to apply these to clinical cases in non-mental health settings.
- Demonstrable expertise in complex assessment of older people with both mental and physical health issues and have the ability to make autonomous decisions based on gathered information.
- Demonstrable ability to develop practical innovations and approaches to issues and complex problems.
- Demonstrable knowledge of the Mental Health Act (1983), the Mental Capacity Act (2005) & DOLS & how to apply these to clinical cases in non-mental health settings.
- Sufficient clinical knowledge to be able to make autonomous decisions, based on an analysis of complex presenting problems and judgement about available options.
- Expertise and experience in supervision and supporting the growth of other staff.
- Proven ability to provide training and education regarding mental health and complex clinical topics.
- Proven track record of building positive relationships with partner agencies.

- In depth awareness of liaison psychiatry and National agendas for the development of liaison psychiatry services.
