Job summary

Are you passionate about supporting the lives of young people with suspected neurodevelopmental characteristics? Would you like to be part of a busy and exciting new service specifically in the pathway for ADHD and Autism assessment? If so, please read on.

We are looking for an clinician with experience in this field to support the referral and assessment pathway for young people with suspected ADHD and Autism. There will be opportunities to enhance your current skill base to complete these diagnostic assessments; and if not already trained, there will be opportunities to train as a nurse prescriber to support young people diagnosed with ADHD requiring medication support. The post holder will also use their clinical skill to ensure young people are placed on a diagnostic pathway correctly and at the right time.

Main duties of the job

This will include screening referrals coming into the service and the management of screening tools and exploration of a young person's developmental history.

The post holder will have great communication with others including schools, parents and young people to understand the needs of the young person involved.

It is imperative that you will have organisational skills to coordinate the referral, pulling a variety of information together to formulate the most appropriate next step.

Time will also be given for you to enhance your clinical skills and be able to conduct diagnostic assessments or supporting the management of medication as a trained/ trainee nurse prescriber.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical

· To provide support and advice to young people with neurodevelopmental needs and their families/carers.

· To provide support, advice and information to schools, GP’s, children’s services and all others involved in the young persons care.

· To screen and manage referrals as they are received into the service

· To manage communications received from GP’s, school staff and other professionals involved with the young person.

· To monitor physical health observations of young people and act as appropriate with the information received.

· To keep accurate records

· To be responsible for ensuring that referrals and discharges are made in accordance with all the Trust's relevant policy and procedures and the principles of good practice.

· To communicate in a highly skilled and sensitive manner information concerning assessment, formulation and treatment plans. To ensure consultation, assessment and treatment interventions are provided in collaboration with children, adolescents and their families.

· To effectively communicate professional opinion, verbally and in writing to families, other professionals, statutory and voluntary agencies. To be responsible for attending meetings relating to young people and multi-agency reviews where appropriate.

· To work in partnership with other lead Agencies, to ensure that Safeguarding

Children/Child Protection issues are addressed effectively and within all local procedures.

· To assess young people with neurodevelopmental needs and formulate appropriate care plans and risk assessment to meet their needs.

Leadership

· To contribute to the development, implementation and interpretation of appropriate policies, protocols and care pathways.

· To offer placements for nursing students and apprenticeships are offered within the clinical speciality as appropriate

· To actively contribute to the development and implementation of the service

· To provide leadership of staff within specialty, this may include imparting highly contentious or controversial information to staff and managing the situation appropriately

· To respond to urgent referrals and unpredictable work patterns.

· To manage potentially stressful, upsetting or emotionally demanding situations in an empathetic manner, with an awareness of impact of own interaction

· To maintain accurate and timely statistical information as required by senior staff and managers.
