Job summary

Are you looking for an opportunity to work in an innovative multi-agency service? Do you have experience working with adolescents with a range of complex needs? We are looking for a Highly Specialist Family and Systemic Psychotherapist with the ability to think creatively when engaging and working with young people with complex mental health and social care needs.

The Hope Service is an innovative and highly respected, multi-disciplinary service for young people aged 11-18 who are experiencing complex mental health, emotional, social and behavioural needs which could cause a placement breakdown or may require a Tier 4 hospital admission. It is a partnership between Health Services, Children’s Services and Education. We are a Centre of Clinical Excellence and awarded Outstanding by Ofsted.

Main duties of the job

The Highly Specialist Family and Systemic Psychotherapist will work with young people with complex mental health, behavioural and social care needs and their families. The post holder will be responsible for providing specialist systemic assessments and interventions for children and young people with moderate and severe mental health problems. You will contribute to the service through consultation to the team on family work and systemic related issues. We are looking for a dynamic and motivated staff member with experience in working with young people with complex needs and support their colleagues in both Epsom and Guildford. There will be development opportunities in Children and Young People Services.

Applications are invited from qualified Family and Systemic Psychotherapist registered with the UKCP.

This role is 15 hours per week,The post holder will be expected to work flexibly in line with the hours of operation.

Job responsibilities

To provide high quality evidence-based family therapy services to children and families in the Hope Service, while receiving regular clinical supervision.

To lead on family therapy sessions and clinics within Hope: reducing DNA rates, participating in audit and the ongoing outcome research project (SCORE).

To support systemic supervision within the multi-disciplinary team who are engaged in family / systemic work, such as liaising with social services, community mental health teams and other relevant services.

To provide systemic consultation to the wider network.

To provide administrative support to the clinic work as required

Key Responsibilities

Clinical

1. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, to provide systemic assessments and treatment in family therapy for children, adolescents and their families, practicing within relevant Codes of Practice and drawing on a range of models and techniques

2. To formulate a range of treatment options based on an appropriate conceptual framework and employing methods based upon evidence e.g., NICE guidelines.

3. To work in ways which are sensitive to and appropriate for the needs of families from a wide range of racial, cultural and religious backgrounds.

4. To provide systemic psychotherapy as an autonomous clinician, drawing on a range of models and techniques. To practice in a way which is inclusive and considerate of the needs of each individual in the system, their varying developmental stages and current emotional state. Ensuring that consultation, assessment and treatment interventions are provided in partnership with children, adolescents and their families.

5. To ensure that appropriate feedback on caseload is provided to relevant stakeholders, and that feedback from service users is utilised to enhance and develop service delivery. To be responsible for attending CPA meetings and reviews where appropriate.

6. To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment (including on-going risk assessment) and treatment of children, young people and their families as appropriate. Responsible for ensuring that referrals and discharges are made in accordance with all the Trust’s relevant policy and procedures and the principles of good practice.

7. To provide consultation, advice and guidance to other professionals working with families both within the service and in partner agencies.

8. To maintain high standards of clinical record keeping and to adhere to policies and procedures as defined by Health and Social Services/Education/Other Statutory Bodies and to adhere to professional ethical standards and codes of practice of the Association for Family Therapy and Systemic Practice (AFT) and the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). To provide comprehensive reports as required.

9. To demonstrate awareness of research and its application to clinical practice.

10. To communicate in a highly skilled and sensitive manner information concerning assessment, formulation and treatment plans of patients. To effectively communicate professional opinion, verbally and in writing to families, other professionals, statutory and voluntary agencies.

11. To contribute to the writing of information sheets and leaflets as necessary.

12. Working in partnerships with other lead agencies, to ensure that Safeguarding Children/Child Protection issues are addressed effectively and within all local procedures.

13. To communicate effectively with families, members of the multidisciplinary team and other statutory and voluntary agencies and maintain close links with relevant clinicians and services.
