Job summary

We are excited to advertise for a part time Band 8b Lead Systemic Family Therapy post. You will lead our developing family therapy team and be part of the management steering group of our service and help us to continue to grow and care for our client group and families. You will be joining at a very exciting time, as our services transform to adopt the Thrive Framework in close collaboration with the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust and the Surrey Wellbeing Partnership.

You will be joining a dynamic, busy, and successful service and multi-disciplinary team within Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders. This is a Surrey-wide service based in Epsom the Service is CARE Excellence Accredited. We are a very reflective and supportive team and therefore very able to meet and surpass our local and national clinical targets, whilst still ensuring we put the young people and families at the heart of what we do.

We are committed to providing flexible working patters to enable good work life balance. There is scope for a proportion of online working however we work with patient choice so face to face working is essential.

Main duties of the job

We offer accessible multi-professional assessment and treatment services for children and young people with eating disorders registered in Surrey. The post holder will be contributing to multi-disciplinary reviews of outpatients and be actively involved in the development and implementation of agreed care plans. The post holder will participate in service-related activity including research, service evaluation and audit activities in addition to the supervision of other grades of staff as required. You will have the opportunity to lead on projects in line with service needs and to fully develop your clinical skills. Excellent and robust supervision is in place (managerial and clinical) and the team also receives monthly staff support from an external psychotherapist.

It is essential that you are a car driver and have use of a car as you will be required to attend relevant meetings for your clients. Training and research opportunities are available, and we have strong links with the Adult ED Team.

Job description

Job responsibilities

As a member of a specialist team working across the county of Surrey, the post holder will be responsible for delivering assessment, formulation and evidence based systemic psychotherapy to young people and their families/carers, and groups. The post holder will also offer consultation, training and teaching to colleagues from other professional backgrounds. The post holder will work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service policies and procedures.

To confidently liaison with our four local Paediatric wards and families where a young person is admitted. MDT Support can be offered to ensure that the postholder is confident in developing their skills in this context. The successful applicant will be responsible for a caseload and will need to be confident with care co-ordination, planning regular reviews of care and ensuring that care plans and risk assessments are up to date, and the young person and their family and carers are involved in all aspects of care planning and safety planning.

To be part of the triage team which reviews referrals to the team, usually received from GPs via tier 3 (locality clinics) and occasionally tier 4 (inpatient units). The team processes all referrals of eating disorders to CYPS and takes case responsibility for managing all moderate to severe individual difficulties with eating (some involving multiple diagnoses) and complex family/professional relationship contexts. The successful applicant would be invited to be part of the daily in-house ED CYPS referrals triage team, and undertake paediatric liaison and join the duty team on a rota basis.

The post-holder will make significant contributions to the running and management of the service, as well as be responsible for/lead multi-disciplinary training clinics and in-house training programmes about systemic family therapy with children and young people with eating disorders. The post holder will be invited to set up and run a Team and Screen Clinic and provide live supervision to this. The successful applicant will be invited to provide supervision to junior Systemic colleagues in ED CYPS and potentially to junior Family Therapists and trainees in wider generic CAMHS.

To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of clinical work and care and to be clinically accountable to supervisees. To maintain high standards of care in all areas of practice in accordance with the UKCP and AFT Code of Conduct, professional guidelines and Trust Policies and Procedures. To act within the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act (2005). To be aware of and implement Safeguarding Adult and Child Protection Policies, Procedures and legislation.

To actively involve young people in developing and agreeing their own care plan, to act as an advocate and ensure that there is proper regard for their dignity, choice, self-esteem, racial, cultural, sexual and religious needs and preferences.

To work creatively to adapt verbal and written communication to meet the needs of people who use our services, their families, cares and the professional system.

To undertake comprehensive risk assessments and develop effective risk management plans (Crisis and Contingency plans) for people with complex needs.

To establish and maintain effective partnerships and relationships with colleagues, other agencies, people who use services and their carers and support staff.

To conduct and contribute to clinical audit, quality assurance and research, maintaining current knowledge of research findings and development within specific care group

To develop and provide a range of specialist FBT and systemic teaching/training packages which can be delivered to a range of multi-disciplinary audiences.

To positively contribute to divisional and team developments in relation to all aspects of systemic practice in the Trust

To lead on the supervision and Individual Performance Review/Appraisal of band 8 and band 7 Systemic Therapists as required

To contribute to the development and implementation of appropriate policies, protocols and care pathways.

To contribute to initiatives to ensure that the diverse needs of people within the service are addressed within local services and future developments.

Assist in appropriate staff recruitment and induction and contribute to the wider strategic plans regarding Family Therapy.
