Job summary

The Clinical Assessment Unit (CAU) currently have an exciting opportunity for a forward thinking, proactive and highly motivated individual as a full time ward clerk the working day shifts are a mixture of shifts earlys lates 10-18.00 or long days we can be flexible.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible individual to join our team to work as a key part of the team providing effective and efficient reception and administrative support service to the ward.

This position will involve working with patients, relatives, carers and ward staff within the unit. This is a very exciting time to join our very friendly team, we are a very friendly supportive team who thrive from working as a team. Informal visits to the unit are welcome so you can come and meet us and see the way that care is delivered.

Main duties of the job

To work as part the team and to provide an effective and efficient receptionist and administrative support service to the ward/ Department, this will involve working with the MDT within the unit and well as within the UEC Division. At times the applicant may become involved in supporting other areas within the UEC Division.

The applicant will also be responsible for ordering and stocking of stationary products as well as the ordering of staff uniforms. The job requires a lot of telephone work therefore excellent verbal communication skills are essential

Job description

Job responsibilities

1.Work in accordance with the Trusts Standards for Practice and Care (particularly section 1- communication; section 2 managing risk and section 6 - staff).

2.Work as an integral part of the ward/department team ensuring that patients, relatives/carers and other visitors receive a friendly and efficient welcoming service.

3.Receive visitors to the ward/department and ensure that they are directed to the appropriate areas and that relevant personnel are informed of their arrival.

4.Answer telephone and co-ordinate messages, initiating action accordingly.

5.Be available to listen to the patients/relatives/carers about their concerns and any issues related to the patients care any concerns should be passed on to the nurse in charge.

6.Give relatives/carers verbal and written information as requested by the nurse in charge. Help support bereaved/distressed families and give them appropriate written and verbal information.

7.Assist with patients property checks, receipts of property and safe storage as necessary.

8.Promptly input accurate patient information, and requests onto the computer system, making appointments as required, admits, discharge and transfer patients and run list/reports as directed.

9.Ensure patients health care records are complete and in the correct order. Prepare nursing documents, file results of investigations.

10.Be responsible for the maintenance and confidentiality of patients health care records.

11.Each weekday morning check that all the ward patients are entered on PAS, that the patients health care records are on the ward and if not request from the admissions department.

12.Open all incoming mail and distribute correspondence. Collate, photocopy and file as necessary.

13.Request, collect and deliver items for the ward, e.g. X rays, notes - ensuring they are available at the appropriate time.

14.Order supplies as directed by the nurse in charge.

15.Assist the Ward/Department Sister/Charge Nurse in the monitoring of furniture, fittings and equipment. Process requisitions for repair as necessary.

16.Assist with monitoring of the physical environment and tidiness of the ward, keeping the Ward/Department Sister/Charge Nurse or their deputies informed and take appropriate actions as required.

17.Maintain timely, courteous and accurate communication with other wards and departments.

18.Undertake other reasonable tasks as directed by the nurse in charge.

19.Always act in a professional manner to uphold good standards of conduct.

20.Maintain/assist with ordering of food and other supplies.
