Band 7: Chief Cardiac Physiologist (Cathlab and Pacing)

We are seeking a suitably qualified Cardiac Physiologist to join our team at Ashford and St Peters NHS Foundation Trust. We are a very active department providing a wide range of investigations and are looking to expand our team of multi-skilled cardiac physiologists as our Invasive services expand.

The post holder will still benefit from the opportunity to rotate through all aspects of the department. We have a busy Pacemaker/ICD implant and follow-up service; we are the leading implant centre in Surrey for ICDs and CRTs with an extensive remotely-monitored patient population.

Our Cardiac Unit carries out diagnostic and interventional catheterisations including FFR, OCT, IVUS, IABP, alongside Electrophysiology Studies, RF ablation and simple/complex device implantation.

Applicants should have a substantive bradycardia and complex pacing post qualification experience including remote monitoring management. BSc in Clinical Physiology/ HTEC MPPM (or equivalent) and RCCP registration is essential. Extensive knowledge and experience in invasive techniques are essential. Further post-graduate learning is desirable (HRUK/IBHRE). Successful applicants would be expected to potentially rotate across both sites.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will / shall

To provide clinical leadership in cardiac rhythm and remote monitoring management service, working alongside other physiologist leads to ensure delivery of a quality clinical service.

To undertake, supervise, and teach at a high level pacing/ICD implants and diagnostics and PCI

To maintain a progressive learning environment within invasive cardiology ensuring the development of all members of the department.

To demonstrate competency in CRM implants including complex devices and autonomous on CRM follow-ups

To work within a 24/7 PPCI service and work weekends on a rotational basis on-call.

Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:

To participate in the provision of the cardiac rhythm management including remote monitoring service and technical invasive cardiology service and assist during the full range of cardiac procedures undertaken within the angiography suite.

To maintain standards of technical competency in the provision of all technical cardiac procedures (invasive and non-invasive).

To assist with the efficient running of the technical service by prioritising the daily workload where appropriate.

To effectively, promptly, and professionally respond to emergency situations maintaining control and requesting assistance as necessary.

To be responsible for identifying equipment faults, and directly resolve fault issues by reporting them in a timely manner.

To provide first line interpretation and full technical reports of individual tests performed whilst reviewing/assisting with the reporting of studies performed by junior staff members.

To remain up to date with latest trends in clinical physiology translating these into practice and transferring this knowledge to staff within ones area of responsibility.

To assist with research studies as required.

To ensure all patients receive appropriate and individualised care.

To undertake service provision and/or training in other areas of Clinical Physiology, as required.

To participate in the 24/7 on-call service provided by the Clinical Physiology department, as required.

Managerial:

To ensure that all data entered on the invasive database is timely and accurate and that statistical records and audits are produced when required.

To deputise for the Operational Manager & Principal Cardiac Physiologist when necessary for management of the department.

To be responsible for the management of junior cardiac physiology personnel

To assist with the recruitment and retention of staff within the Clinical Measurements Department

To assist with all aspects of the organisation and performance of the invasive angiography service including management of the primary PCI rota and service for physiologists.

To work with the Operational Manager & Principal Cardiac Physiologist to ensure procedures are in place to achieve Government targets in Cardiac Physiology services

To assist in the development of protocols, guidelines, and policies within the department in order to achieve IQIPS accreditation.

To implement local policies and guidelines and ensure these are adhered to at all times and ensure these incorporate current professional recommendations and evidence based practice

To work in accordance with standards set by the Society for Cardiological Sciences and Technology (SCST) and the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP)

To be familiar with the use of Cerner, PAS, PRISM and any other computerised systems integral to the running of the department.

Communication with manufacturers/suppliers regarding stock and/or equipment management; ensuring adequate stock control and that staff are aware of economical use of supplies

To manage own time to achieve a balance between clinical and administrative duties.
