Job summary

We are looking for an inspirational, energetic and experienced Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) educator to join our infusion suite team.

We want you to help shape the delivery of practice and professional education and training for SACT across the Trust. You will use your knowledge and skills to support the development of others, promote a positive and creative culture of learning and staff development and provide consultancy support for others offering advice and guidance on education and training issues relating to SACT.

You would need to be confident in a clinical teaching environment and have experience in mentoring other colleagues. You will empower our new colleagues to become confident and competent in the workplace, keep accurate training records and be able to show evidence of consistent and sustained improvements in standards of practice in this area.

Internally the post holder will develop effective working relationships with:

Infusion Suite Matron, Lead Chemotherapy Nurse, Haematology Day Unit and IV at Home team, wider CPE team, consultants, diagnostic teams, cancer services, all health professionals to establish effective practice and facilitate patient care at ASPH NHS Foundation Trust.

Externally this includes:

Other Trusts, Surrey and Sussex Cancer Alliance, the CCG, ICS, primary care, Macmillan, Educational institutions, wider clinical education teams across organisations.

Main duties of the job

Lead in the delivery of practice and professional education and training for SACT across the Trust in collaboration with the Lead Chemotherapy Nurse.

To promote a positive and creative culture of learning and staff development.

To provide consultancy support for managers and staff offering advice and guidance on education and training issues relating to SACT.

To act as professional supervisor and utilise clinical supervision and reflective practice skills to enhance development of self and colleagues in the inter-professional team to optimise care.

To act as a mentor for students and other junior staff ensuring learning that is commensurate with education needs.

Planning and delivering research/evidence-based care and treatment in partnership with other health professionals and the Lead chemotherapy nurse.

Supporting colleagues in the development of knowledge and skills through acting as an assessor, teacher, mentor and facilitation in order to complete and maintain the UKONS SACT passport for each SACT trained member of staff.

To participate in the formulation of clinical guidelines and policies, providing research based information to the process.

To work closely with the educational leads and clinical leadership team to maximise professional development.

To contribute to the teaching of cancer and SACT and associated modules delivered by the Universities, Macmillan and other education providers locally.

In collaboration with the Lead Chemotherapy nurse and other relevant cancer CNS teams, look at the development of patient and carer education, looking at self-management models relating to both self-administration of SACT and self-management of SACT toxicities.

To develop and establish strong links with the lead pharmacists for oncology and haematology to work together to educate and train pharmacy staff in all areas of SACT.
