invited for a Consultant Paediatrician with an interest in Paediatric Allergy
at St Peters Hospital, Chertsey. Ashford & St. Peters Hospitals NHS
Foundation Trust is the largest provider of acute services to residents of
Surrey, totalling more than 380,000 people.

team of dedicated consultants working in a friendly, flexible and cohesive
group. We are enthusiastic, welcoming and proactive in supporting special
interests. We wish to recruit a new Consultant to cover a vacancy for a
Paediatrician with an expertise in Paediatric Allergy. Our Epilepsy Team
consists of four Paediatricians, two Specialist Nurses and Paediatric
Dietician, one of whom supports transition. The team has a mixture of one stop
allergy clinics, day case food and drug challenges and joint clinics with the
Adult Dermatologists.

Main duties of the job
The post holders will join a team of 18 Consultant
Paediatricians. The job plan primarily relates to supporting Children and Young
People Emergency Department (CYPED) with five other colleagues. However, this
may change to working on the Acute Attending and on Call rota depending on both
the needs of the service and the applying candidate(s). Working in CYPED from
17:00 22:00 1 in 6 weekdays (Monday to Thursday), 1 in 6 Friday mornings
(09:00 13:00), 1 in 6 weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) 17:00 22:00
and alternate Monday afternoons (14:00 22:00). The post holder will be
supported by the Attending Consultant Paediatrician who is on site Monday to
Thursday 09:00 18:00 and Friday 09:00 13:00 as well as the on call
Consultant Paediatrician who is on site 17:00 19:00 Monday to Thursday, 13:00
19:00 Friday and 09:00 15:00 Saturday and Sunday, then on call from home.

Duties in CYPED
will include supporting the care of the children and young people with
predominantly medical conditions and working collaboratively with our
colleagues in the Emergency Department, UTC and GPs. The post
holder will provide shop floor support
in the review of sick children with general oversight of all
children in the department and ensuring they are referred to the appropriate
specialties. Working closely with the nurse in charge to streamline acute
inpatient admissions or transfers to tertiary centres. They will also undertake
supervision and training of junior medical staff and medical students.
If participating in the 1 in
9 Attending and On Call rota the post holder will be on site on
site Monday to Thursday 09:00 18:00 and Friday 09:00 13:00 as well as the
on call Consultant Paediatrician who is on site 17:00 19:00 Monday to Thursday,
13:00 19:00 Friday and 09:00 15:00 Saturday and Sunday, then on call from
home.
As well as supporting CYPED or the Acute Attending / On Call
rota, the post holder will also run both General Paediatric and Paediatric
Allergy clinics.
The job plan has 10 PAs, although part time applicants are
welcome. The post holder will work 1 in 6 Monday Sunday evenings from 17:00
22:00 and weekday sessions in CYPED which accounts for 2.88 PAs of the 10 PA
job plan.
In addition to the above the post holder will participate in
the following / have the following duties:
- Three clinics per week (mix of Paediatric Allergy and Rapid
Access)
- Clinic related Administration
- Paediatric M&M
- Grand Round
- Safeguarding Peer Review
- Good News Friday
- Learning from SIRI
- Additional administration
The above equates to a total 7.38 Direct Clinical Care (DCC)
PAs and along with 1 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs) to cover formal
post-graduate teaching, audit research, appraisal and clinical management as
required equates to a total of 8.38 PAs. Remaining 1.62 PAs of a 10 PA post
will be discussed with individual candidates and may include Educational /
Clinical Supervision; Medical Student Teaching; Simulation or further
clinics.
Plans are in place to
develop our acute care pathway to incorporate Attending weeks in PAU / CYPED.
Out of hours work would continue to include shop floor in PAU / CYPED from
17:00 22:00 Monday to Sunday, rather than off site on call. This pathway
design will be done in liaison with the Consultant Team and
we would welcome feedback from the appointed candidate.
This is an indicative
weekly timetable for the current staffing of 18 consultants. A specific job plan will be agreed between
the appointed consultant and to meet the needs of the service.
As mentioned previously the above job plan primarily relates to supporting CYPED with five
other colleagues. However, this may change to working on the Acute Attending
and on Call rota depending on both the needs of the service and the applying

1.46 PAs for Attending and 1.53 PAs for on calls, with all other clinical
