Bank Pathology Driver

Job summary

Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Transport Services are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable bank drivers to join our busy team within the Transport department to cover as required.

You will be based at the Ashford and St Peter's Hospital depot, covering runs from Ashford and St Peter's hospitals, but at times may be required to work at othersites in the network. We drive a variety of vehicles and also work from depots at Farnborough, Heatherwood and Wexham, Royal Surrey County Hospital, Royal Berkshire and Cody depot, Farnborough. The department provides services to customers between 06:30 and 20:00, Monday to Friday with the possibility of working additional weekends. Hours will vary to meet the urgent demands of our users, but you must be willing to work some evenings if required.

The responsibilities of the successful applicant will include carrying out efficient and safe transportation of mail, laboratory samples, pharmacy, medical records and stores between hospital sites and other NHS organisations within the region.

You should be reliable, have a responsible and flexible attitude with good organisational skills, and be resourceful, honest, with the commitment and ability to work on your own or as part of a team.

You must have a full clean driving licence.

Main duties of the job

As part of the Transport team, to carry out all the duties associated with the provision of a comprehensive delivery service, especially to drive delivery vehicles and carry out delivery schedules and complete all relevant paperwork. Also, ensuring that the vehicles are kept clean, roadworthy, tidy and properly maintained.

This merged department provides a service for Royal Berkshire Hospital, Frimley Health which includes Heatherwood & Wexham Park Hospitals, Royal Surrey County Hospital and Ashford & St Peter's Hospitals, together with other external organisations.

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To ensure that daily routine vehicle checks are undertaken and recorded including oil, water, tyres etc, any faults reported so they can be rectified and adhering to relevant transport regulations;
  2. To complete the vehicle log sheet after each use.
  1. Be responsible for the security and safety of loads carried.
  1. Be responsible for the cleanliness of the vehicle, including the clean up of any spillages.
  1. To undertake all daily deliveries and collections of pathology specimens, mail, consumables etc within the departmental working hours (currently 06:30 - 23:30).
  1. To ensure all equipment is secured using the appropriate equipment.
  1. To ensure the safe delivery of any pharmacy, Chemotherapy and controlled drugs to authorised personnel and that a signature is obtained.
  1. To report any incidents or accidents using the correct reporting procedure.
  2. To ensure delivery of X-rays, Medical Records etc to various locations.
  3. To undertake delivery of any other relevant items as requested by Management
  4. To deal politely with queries from users when delivering and report back any issues that may occur.
  5. To sort mail from various locations, ensuring deadlines are met for next runs.
  6. To carry out all tasks in a prompt, safe and efficient manner.
  7. To demonstrate professionalism, honesty and integrity in all matters of a confidential nature.
  8. To be smart of appearance and dress in the uniform provided.
  9. To attend mandatory training and continuing education courses as required.
  10. To attend in-house training, including Transport Induction, basic Health and Safety and COSHH awareness sessions.
  11. To ensure that all statutory requirements, including those for Health and Safety are met and to advise senior staff on areas of concern.
