Job summary

We are looking for a compassionate, dynamic, experienced, midwife, to join our midwifery senior team. As a key member of our senior midwifery team and expert midwife you will have an opportunity alongside the obstetric lead to drive innovation and excellence in our fetal surveillance, monitoring and perinatal optimisation programmes. You will help shape and nurture an everyday culture of high quality antenatal fetal surveillance, intrapartum risk assessments & fetal monitoring in pregnancy, labour and birth and perinatal optimisation.

Main duties of the job

In this role, you will support the delivery of strong visible clinical leadership, promoting professional advice and guidance to all maternity staff, to ensure the highest standards of woman centered care are delivered in our service.

You will provide expertise to the service and support the implementation of national policy and national guidance/ evidence in relation to fetal monitoring and achieving healthy birth outcomes.

You will work with our Quality & Safety team and lead on quality improvement strategies and assurance processes which underpin the provision of safe, effective, maternity care.

You will provide midwifery expertise and clinical care within our preterm birth service.

You will be able to demonstrate a proven record of sound leadership, communication skills, management skills, courtesy and diplomacy, when dealing with colleagues and the general public.

Job responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain clinical guidelines, policies and practices to all fetal monitoring (including intermittent auscultation, antepartum CTG interpretation, the use of computerised CTGs and intrapartum continuous electronic fetal monitoring) and ensure all relevant assessments and standards are complied with to include NICE 22 guidance, underpinned by fetal physiology.
  • Lead on the Implementation and embedding of all elements of the current version and any future versions of Saving Babies' Lives Care Bundle with oversight of the Consultant Midwife Public Health
  • Provide midwifery expertise and clinical support to the Pre-term birth clinic and clinical areas (inpatient fetal monitoring).
  • Participate in the manager on-call rota
  • Education, Training and Competency assessment of maternity staff who undertake fetal monitoring.
  • Participate in the delivery of Emergency Skills Drills Training Education days (MDOT)
  • Implementing and maintaining a system to monitor trends in relation to fetal surveillance.
  • Respond to requirements for assurance, evidence submissions, general report for compliance by the LMNS and NHSE/I as required.
  • Publishing a regular Fetal wellbeing Newsletter, highlighting pertinent risk management issues to all staff thus providing feedback to staff from incidents and ensuring that any lessons learnt are shared with all appropriate personnel.
