Job summary

An exciting opportunity to appoint an enthusiastic, flexible, experienced ophthalmic nurse, to join our forward thinking, progressive nursing team. The post holder will be one of the Team Leaders responsible and accountable for the continuous day to day clinical management of the unit. The development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure patients receive optimum care.

To lead by example as an expert practitioner in the delivery of high standards of nursing care and be an excellent role model, providing support and motivation to the team.

This position requires experience and clinical insight into Ophthalmology and your role will require you to work closely alongside the other Sister/charge nurse and demonstrate leadership qualities and experience; this is key to the success of the department and your role.

The post holder will support the Matron in developing the service and meeting the requirements of Care Quality Commission.

The post holder will be required to work with our existing Ophthalmology Team based mainly at Ashford Hospital but not exclusively as the Ophthalmology service runs from SPH and Woking Community Hospital.

Main duties of the job

Ensure effective communication between staff, patients' visitors and outside agencies

Keep the Directorate/Divisional management team informed of relevant issues regarding running of the ward/unit, expenditure/income and accounting for significant variances against budget.

Maintain professional boundaries and working relationships with patients and colleagues

Lead on change management issues/projects for the ward/unit .

Participate in annual staff appraisal, staff development and in-service training activities in line with the Knowledge and Skills Framework . Work with team members to ensure maintenance of a clean and safe environment that is conducive to therapeutic and ethical practice.

Promote nursing practice and care delivery in line with relevant research and evidence baseand with reference to trust policies and guidelines

Identify potential risks for all staff, patients and visitors, act as required adhere to relevant incident reporting procedures

Participate in audit processes for monitoring and reviewing nursing quality

Facilitate staff to fulfil mandatory training & CPD requirements and to maintain a professional profile . To make sure staff rotas are done on time to ensure smooth running of the department. Tobe able to support the unit clinically when there are staff shortfalls.
