Job summary

We are excited to advertise a substantive band 6 Clinical Practice Facilitator post to join our experienced ICU educator team; you'll need to be an experienced ICU nurse with a passion for teaching and educating our ICU staff.

Your day will be varied, involving simulation training, bedside teaching and classroom sessions, working with staff both in a 1:1 scenario and with larger staff groups.

We have close links with the corporate education team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will

  • Support the 'professional development' of nursing and healthcare staff within the Intensive Care Unit.
  • Support staff within the clinical setting undertaking requiredcompetencies associated with their role
  • Assist the CPE / Matron in delivering specific training duringinduction and the first year
  • Support the Intensive Care Clinical Education Team in deliveringclinical training to Trust staff as required.
  • Flexibility of working hours will be required to meet the demands ofthe service

Clinical & Professional Responsibilities

  • Support the Intensive Care clinical development of staff in practice in partnership with their supervisors, ward managers and Clinical Educators
  • Undertake clinical practice hours as determined in an individual work plan defined with the Lead Nurse Professional Development and Divisional Chief Nurse
  • Function as a practicing professional working directly alongside the staff in clinical practice in line with the NMC/HCPC code
  • To be a point of reference for support in managing issues/concerns raised by clinical staff and the Education providers
  • Work closely with Intensive Care Clinical Practice Educators in relation to supporting staff in practice and ensuring their learning outcomes are achievable and being met
  • To undertake assessment of both registered and unregistered clinical staff in practice as required
  • To provide feedback to the Intensive Care Clinical Practice Educators / Matron regarding clinical staff practice needs, issues/concerns
  • To support the development and delivery of formal training and study days and clinical skills training as required to support staff development as required
Leadership & managerial
  • Act as a role model when in clinical practice demonstrating excellence in practice.
  • As a practice facilitator supervise the safe delivery of high standards of clinical practice and evidence based care in accordance with the NMC code, the Trusts strategy for nursing and the Trusts policies and procedures
  • To support the Clinical Practice Educators in assessing the practice needs of clinical staff and create a culture of reflective practice
  • Work with staff within the clinical setting to facilitate practice by enabling and motivating them to realise their potential within existing and available resource
Education
  • Support the Intensive Care Clinical Practice Educators with the specific training needs, both practical and theoretical, required by both registered and unregistered staff.
  • Provide feedback using a coaching approach and feedforward to staff following supervision, 1:1 teaching or group teaching sessions in practice in accordance with agreed competency frameworks taking guidance from the corporate team.
  • Practice within a supportive learning environment for all learners encouraging staff at all levels to deliver high quality car within a supportive environment.
  • Foster a learning environment within the clinical areas, ensuring staff are provided with opportunities to develop, taking guidance from the Band 7s & 8A.
