Job summary

Ashford & St. Peter's Hospitals NHS Trust is formed from two acute District General Hospitals (roughly 10 miles apart) with a 450 bed capacity. The Imaging Department comprises of approximately 140 staff with an activity of 250 000 patient examinations per year.

We are looking for a suitably qualified and enthusiastic radiographer to join the Radiology IT Team. The appropriate candidate will have previous experience of working within a PACS/RIS environment and a positive approach to improving the service for the benefit of patient care. You will take responsibility for the day-to-day organisation and management of the PACS and its data, ensuring that the radiology staff are able to optimize their use of the available technology.

The Trust has the Sectra PACS, Magentus RIS and Cerner Millennium EPR.We actively encourage staff to undertake continuing professional development and extension of the radiographers' role.

Main duties of the job

  • To ensure wherever possible that the PACS is operational
  • To train key Trust staff, both within and outside of the Imaging Department, to become key operators of the PACS system, to facilitate the cascade training of existing staff and the induction training of new staff
  • To manage the regular housekeeping requirements of PAC
  • To monitor equipment performance and provide first line PACS system support within the radiology department and communicating with users in relation to planned and unplanned downtime

The Job Description and Person Specification links will provide detailed information, and in summary, the successful candidates will need to hold a DCR or BSc Diagnostic Radiography (or equivalent) with current Membership to the Professional Body (HCPC) and significant clinical experience. People management experience is also essential as well as an understanding of requirements and standards such as IRMER, IRR17 and Infection Control.

  • Take responsibility for the day-to-day organisation and management of the PACS and its data, liaising with other departments and system suppliers on developments and advancement
  • Manage communication between the Trust IT and radiology staff, PACS and DR equipment suppliers and other modality service personnel
  • Maintain an accurate log of PACS and DR assets showing their current performance status and system information (IP address, location, reference number etc)
  • Monitor and maintain procedures for recording PACS and DR equipment fault
  • In conjunction with the Trusts IT department, to develop and keep up-to-date disaster recovery plans and Business Continuity plan
  • Monitor equipment performance and provide first line PACS system support within the radiology department and communicating with users in relation to planned and unplanned downtime.
  • Determine the access right of users and maintain user access records for external users
  • Provide second line support to end users across the Trust
  • Management and operation of prefetching and image routing protocols within the PACS system
  • Performing regular system checks, ensuring frontline maintenance of performance
  • Manage the regular housekeeping requirements of the system including correction of patient and image information issues/errors
  • Be the frontline contact for all PACS and associated equipment faults, including development of fault reporting protocol and helpdesk reporting process
  • Maintain regular contact with the other trusts within the PACS Consortiu
  • Deputise for the CRIS Administrator, assisting with the production of CRIS Stats if required
