Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated radiographer, midwife or nurse to expand their career in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology ultrasound scanning by training to become a sonographer. The training will lead to a Postgraduate Certificate in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

This is a full time post and can potentially open up future opportunities for the candidate in other areas of ultrasound imaging.

Ashford & St Peter's NHS Trust is based across two sites with the main department situated at St. Peter's Hospital KT16 0PZ and a smaller one at Ashford Hospital, TW15 3AA.

We are a friendly multidisciplinary team comprising radiographer and midwife sonographers along with three obstetric consultants who specialise in fetal medicine, maternal medicine and multiple pregnancy and are fully committed to the continuing development of our dynamic department. We also have close ties with our tertiary referral centre at St. George's Hospital, London.

The department runs a Monday to Friday scanning service which includes all pregnancy scans from early pregnancy to term and gynaecology scans. It is a busy department and will provide a good opportunity to be exposed to all aspects of obstetrics and gynaecology scanning and form a basis to become an experienced sonographer.

Main duties of the job

The course will involve a combination of hands on training provided by skilled and experienced sonographers currently working in the department as well as attendance to King's College London for lectures and examinations.

The course is academically demanding so candidates need to be thoroughly committed to the training as it necessitates working at Master's level to achieve the Postgraduate Certificate.

The course will be funded by Ashford & St. Peter's Trust. The post holder will ideally commence working at Ashford and St Peter's Trust one month prior to the academic course start date and will continue for three months after the course end date to complete a Preceptorship. The Programme modules at King's College commence in September.

On completion of the PgCert there will be the opportunity for career progression to Band 7.

The expectation is for the successful candidate to remain at Ashford and St. Peter's Maternity Ultrasound for a minimum of 2 years post qualification.
