Main duties of the job
- Working independently, acquire details of potential trauma cases for inclusion in the TARN database using the IT department's monthly TARN search and supplementary lists of deaths or transfers-out from the A&E; check each case against the patient's notes to confirm whether it meets the inclusion criteria for the TARN database.
- Ensure all key performance indicators and mandatory research fields are entered. Keep records of patients whose data is submitted and take reasonable steps to follow up missing data.
- Long periods of concentration are required as attention to medical detail is paramount. Information can contain distressing material.
- Review and develop procedures for data collection or reporting as necessary and contribute to raising awareness of adequate documentation within the A&E department.
- Distribute TARN's Clinical Reports; create reports using the TARN ECDR reporting function when requested and provide progress reports to the Acute Phase Trauma Care group. Collate data for other ad-hoc requirements as required.
- Maintain the compliance of the IT Department's search with the inclusion criteria for TARN case submission.
- Provide training and ongoing support in data entry to other staff.
- Responsibility for the day to day management of the TARN Assistant including annual appraisals.
