Job summary

We are seeking an exceptional candidate to lead the Urgent and Emergency Care (UEC) Division at the Trust. This is a dual role as a senior Divisional Director (and a member of the Trust Executive Board) and a Consultant in an Urgent and Emergency Care specialty. It is a 10 PA job plan of which 4 PAs is for the DD responsibility, which also attracts a £16k responsibility allowance. The remaining PAs will depend upon the candidate's specialty of interest.

As a senior leader, you will help develop and support the implementation of the Trust's urgent and emergency care strategy, enabling good cross Divisional and system working and contributing to major strategic developments. You will shape our organisational culture by empowering our staff to work collaboratively to achieve excellence for our patients.

The Division manages the UEC, which includes five main services: the A&E department, the multi-specialty clinical assessment unit, the same day emergency care centre (SDEC), acute frailty and acute medicine. We also work closely with our partners to oversee the delivery of diverse services including the Urgent Treatment Centre and mental health provision.

We are looking for a practicing clinician who is a strategic and visionary thinker with highly developed communication and negotiation skills and able to demonstrate ability for large scale clinical service management and experience of acting at a senior level ideally in a complex hospital environment.

Main duties of the job

The Divisional Director has two key elements to their role, in addition to their clinical duties:

- Their leadership role in their Division and

- Their leadership role as a member of the Trust Executive Board

The Divisional Director will need to deliver results across the board. Within the Divisions, Divisional Directors will be expected to ensure:

  • That national NHS requirements are satisfied and all quality and performance targets are delivered
  • That the Trust's strategy and business plans are delivered
  • That sound and effective clinical governance arrangements are in place to secure excellent patient experience, outcomes and high standards of safety
  • Sound financial management and governance
  • The creation of an inclusive and collaborative culture which enables and supports the highest standards of clinical quality and operational performance.

As a member of the corporate management team, Divisional Directors will be expected to

  • Help shape the Trust's strategy and business plans
  • Support the overall implementation of the Trust's strategy, enabling good cross Divisional working where necessary, and contributing to major strategic developments.
  • Shape and support the culture of the organisation
  • Represent the organisation effectively with key partners, building the reputation of the Trust in its local community and further afield.
