Part-Time Clinical Vascular Scientist Grade 8a
22.5 hours per week
The Julie Andrews Vascular Unit at St Peters Hospital are seeking to appoint a qualified Vascular Scientist to join our friendly team of qualified and trainee vascular scientists. Ideally we are looking for an experienced Vascular Scientist with SVT accreditation and able to work autonomously, however, someone with less experience would be considered as full training can be provided. The post holder will be required to work across sites providing a varied and stimulating workload.
You will work closely with 4 Consultant Vascular Surgeons and support staff to provide a full range of non-invasive investigations. This includes carotid artery duplex, upper and lower limb arterial and venous duplex, aortic aneurysm and EVAR surveillance, pre-operative vein marking and ultrasound guidance in theatre for venous ablation procedures. Training will be given where necessary.
We are a small team with a reputation within the trust for providing an excellent service to our patients and referring clinical teams. We enjoy close and positive working relationships with many of our colleagues around the trust including those in Vascular Surgery, Diabetic Foot Clinic, Stroke and Radiology.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will be expected:
- To provide a quality scanning and reporting service in all aspects of vascular ultrasound for Ashford and St Peters Hospitals
- To be involved with service delivery and service improvement for the benefit of the patient through audit and research
- To maintain high clinical standards, particularly regarding patient care, clinical risk and Health and Safety
- To liaise with other Health Care Professionals and departmental staff on a daily basis
- To continue to develop one's own knowledge, practice and development through continued professional development
- To participate in Quality Assurance and Quality Control of the ultrasound equipment
- To participate in the practical and theoretical training of student practitioners
- To understand the implications of the Health and Safety at Work Act and ensure a safe working environment for patients, visitors and staff

Clinical and Professional Responsibilities

To provide a high standard of ultrasound practice and the delivery of an evidence based service, geared towards patient care. This is in accordance with the SVT Code of Professional Conduct, SVT Guidelines and the Trusts Policies and Procedures.

Develop and maintain effective communication with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure effective patient management.

To work in conjunction with future collaboratives to meet local and national waiting time initiatives.
