Job summary

Are you an experienced Nurse, Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist looking for an exciting development opportunity ?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, dynamic and committed individual to join our

Moving & Handling Team as a Moving & Handling Advisor in practice.

The successful candidate would have experience working in the clinical environment as a registered Nurse or Therapist and be competent in handling patients and Moving & Handling equipment.

This is a development role with the opportunity to undertake a formal education qualification such as the, the Post Graduate certificate in Education PgCert.

This unique role includes supporting patients and staff handling and musculoskeletal needs.

You will be based at Ashford Hospital Education Centre but would need to work across all ASPH sites when required.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will:

Provide advice and education on matters relating to moving and handling to ensure all staff are compliant with the Trust Moving and Handling Policy and Manual Handling Operation Regulations

Design and deliver clinical moving and handling mandatory and care enhanced training

Undertake risk assessments of moving and handling complex handling situations and environmental concerns

Support relevant staff who have been on sick leave who require specific moving and handling advice and support their return to work

Work with External Moving & Handling equipment providers

Have up to date knowledge of moving and Handling equipment used in an acute setting

Training Clinical Supporting the Senior Moving and Handling Advisor by:

Contributing to the design, organisation and delivery and evaluation of innovative and engaging clinical moving and handling training and coaching. Using a range of training materials for use in a variety of settings throughout the Hospital

Ensuring that the moving and handling training is current, contemporary based on best practice and evolving; bespoke and meets legislative and local policy guidance. To include

Specialist training and advice in the use of moving and handling equipment

Delivering clinical mandatory training, Induction and care enhanced trainingMaintaining accurate and up to date records on staff training in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council codes of practice and standards for record keeping

Advisory Clinical -

Support the development of safe working practices regarding clinical moving and handling throughout the Trust, in line with current legislation, policies, procedures and safe systems of work

Assist, on request, in the assessment of patients with complex handling needs, and advise on care planning and equipment provision

Undertake specialised risk assessments of the working environment, related to moving and handling issues

Work closely with managers and their teams, promoting best practice and awareness of the risks of poor practice

Undertake audit to review compliance of the Moving and Handling Policy

Research and evaluate new moving and handling equipment

General responsibilities

Supports the Senior Moving and Handling Advisor ensuring that comprehensive accurate documentation, including maintenance of equipment is kept

Work collaboratively with the Occupational Health Department, Health and Safety, and Clinical Governance teams to promote health and wellbeing and reduce the incidence of Musculoskeletal injuries

To keep professionally updated with evolving moving and handling guidance and legislation, and disseminate to relevant parties
