Job summary

Our Ashford Hospital site in Surrey is looking ahead to the expansion of our theatres as we move towards the site becoming our dedicated elective centre. Our vision is to create a state-of-the-art centre for excellence for planned surgical procedures; with care delivered by dedicated, specialist teams in a modern and well-equipped environment.

We hope to use this centre to create an environment of learning and facilitate training of the next generation of our NHS workforce. Our plans are ambitious - why not, come and be a part of our journey. We are looking to appoint to a number of roles to support this dedicated site, including this position of Health Care Support Worker.

You must be able to work a minimum of 23 hours per week and be able to undertake a variety of shifts including days, night, weekends and bank holidays.

Experienced health care support workers and those that are new to a caring role are all welcome to apply. You must have good communication skills, have competent IT skills, and have a kind, caring and compassionate nature.

As a HCSW you will be a valued member of the team and can make a significant difference to people in your care.

The Trust offers onwards training for HCSWs including working towards the Care Certificate, Maths and English qualifications.

Main duties of the job

  • Work as a Healthcare Support Worker in a ward / department within the hospital setting.
  • Carry out assigned tasks involved with direct patient care whilst maintaining the privacy and dignity of patients.
  • Be able to demonstrate an excellent care, compassion and communication whilst delivering care to patients in an acute care setting.
  • Concentrate on continence Management
  • Concentrate on nutrition & Hydration
  • Undertake and record of Vital Signs
  • Undertake moving & Handling of patients to support independence.
  • Adhere to Infection Prevention and Control
  • Safeguard adults and children.
  • Care for patients post operatively and assisting with their ADLs.
  • Assist in the delivery of care planned and assessed by the Registered Nurses.
  • Carry out care / other duties under indirect supervision
