Job summary
We are looking to recruit three Consultants with interests including Diabetes, Respiratory and Rheumatology.
We have a talented team of dedicated consultants working in a friendly, flexible and cohesive group. We wish to recruit new Consultants to cover vacancies within General Paediatrics, with interests including Diabetes, Respiratory and Rheumatology. Our Paediatric Diabetes Team consists of a multi-disciplinary team of Paediatric Consultants, Dieticians, Specialist Nurses as will a transition team, with the team running clinics from our dedicated Diabetes Stephanie Marks Resource Centre. Our Respiratory Team consists of Consultant, Specialist Nurses and works closely with Royal Brompton Hospital. Our Rheumatology Team has recently set up transition clinics with Adult Services and also has close links with Southampton University Hospital, providing MDT clinics once per month.

Main duties of the job
The post holders will join a team of 19 Consultant Paediatrician and will either work as part of 1 in 9 Acute Attending and on call rota or 1 in 6 Children and Young Persons Emergency Department (CYP ED) rota. During the Attending week the Consultant is based on the ward, Monday to Thursday 09:00 - 18:00 and Friday 09:00 - 13:00, with all other duties cancelled. When on call as part of the 1 in 9 rota you are on site 17:00 - 19:00 Monday to Thursday, 13:00 - 19:00 Friday and 09:00 - 17:00 Saturday and Sunday, then on call from home. The 1 in 6 CYP ED rota provides Consultant Paediatrician cover in CYP ED Mon to Sunday; 09:00 - 13: Friday as well additional weekday cover 14:00 - 17:00 when available.
The post holders will also run General Paediatric clinics as well as sub specialty clinics in Paediatric Diabetes; Paediatric Rheumatology or Paediatric Respiratory.
The General Paediatric Department has a three Tier Medical Rota consisting of a SHO rota, Middle Grade rota and Consultant rota. The Consultant Rota is made up of 14 Consultants (including this post and working a mixture of WTE), with a 1 in 9 Attending rota, 1 in 9 on call rota and 1 in 5 Paediatric A&E rota.
As we have a dedicated Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit we have a separate Neonatal Team at Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 level and therefore there is no requirement to cross cover the Neonatal Unit, although we work closely together.
