Job summary
The Cardiac Risk Management / Secondary Prevention & Rehabilitation Service is looking for two enthusiastic forward-thinking fitness instructors to join our team. The role is mainly to help run the cardiac exercise sessions at River Bourne Club in Chertsey and at Ashford Hospital.
The successful candidates should have experience in promoting physical activity, providing, and managing exercise programmes. He / she ideally is BACPR -trained, or other equivalent training.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
- Work as an autonomous practitioner promoting physical activity and exercise to patients following a cardiac event.
- Run the cardiac rehab exercise classes at either Ashford Hospital or River Bourne Club in Chertsey
- Assist in delivering the education sessions at River Bourne Club

Assist with the ordering and maintenance of exercise equipment

Record patient's blood pressure and pulse before and after exercise, or as needed

- To carry out interventions which support the patients with their cardiac rehabilitation. This may include supporting the patient to maintain or develop new behaviours or practice behaviours which support them to self-manage their needs
- To perform functional capacity tests and create an exercise plan according to results
- To be responsible for demonstrating the exercise and the use of equipment and tools to patients
Communication / Relationship Skills
1.To communicate any changes in care plan or treatment approach to physiotherapists and other team members
2.To communicate effectively with all disciplines involved in a patients care both those from within the organisation and those outside to ensure effective multidisciplinary working. This will include discussion of patient care & patient progress.
3.To use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively with patients in order to progress rehabilitation and treatment programmes. This may include patients who will have difficulties in understanding or communicating, e.g. patients who may be deaf, blind or other disabilities
4. To be able to communicate complex and sensitive information to patients, carers and other staff including imparting unwelcome news relating to their rehabilitation potential and gaining consent for treatment.
5. To ensure timely and effective communication with the senior nurse or physiotherapist and senior staff on all professional matters.
6. To maintain accurate records in line with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy standards and Trust and service standards and policies.
7. To attend staff meetings and actively participate ensuring understanding of information imparted.
8. To be able to manage potentially stressful, upsetting or emotional situations in an empathetic manner.
Analytical / Judgment skills
- To undertake assessments of patients using investigative and analytical skills, and where unsure to seek guidance from senior staff.
- To devise individualised physiotherapy management and / or treatment plans, using clinical reasoning skills, evaluating the outcomes of your interventions.
- To use a range of treatment/ management options in formulating programmes of care.
- To maintain a high standard of clinical care using evidence- based practice by keeping up to date with clinical developments, analysing current research and discussing and implementing changes in your clinical practice.
Responsibilities for human resources including personal and people development
1.To attend all relevant on call training in order to maintain competency and confidence.
2.To be responsible for and actively record your own personal development. This may include active participation in journal clubs, clinical reasoning and problem patient sessions as participant and facilitator.
3. To disseminate any training received to other staff and health care professionals.
4. To participate in the appraisal scheme as an appraisee.
5. To assist if required in the training of assistants/technicians and physiotherapy students on placements, within the clinical area.
6. To ensure professional competence is maintained by participating in all CPD opportunities and maintaining a portfolio.

- To monitor and maintain health, safety and security of self and others.
- Responsible for identifying and assessing potential risks involved in work activities and processes for self and others
